    1. Re: [IRL-KERRY] Transcription of Church Records
    2. Jeanne, Many other counties are available from the Irish Family History Foundation. You might look to see if the county you are looking for is there. That is, however, a paid site. I did get lots of information on my grandfather's family in Kildare from there and had no problem paying for the results once I found the right people. But now you have to pay for the searches and pay in advance. I have tried looking for my Nora Lynch in Limerick and there are so many results that it would cost me a fortune to look at each one to see if it is mine. It seems to me that I was able to narrow down the results better when the search was free than it is now. I lost money over ten years ago with Irish Ancestors and I won't do that again. I paid $50 up front and found no information that I could not find somewhere else FOR FREE. I just checked the other day and still have 14 units of credit, since 2002! 1. [IRL-KERRY] Blasket Anniversary & Fiche Bliain ag Fás
    2. Ray Marshall
    3. http://mykerryancestors.com/blasket-anniversary-fiche-blian-ag-fas/ Blasket Anniversary & Fiche Bliain ag Fás Sixty years ago to-day, the last remaining Islanders were evacuated from the Great Blasket Island . One of the three most famous Blasket Island books was Fiche Bliain ag Fás. It was published in <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_language> Irish and English in 1933. As one of the last areas of Ireland, in which the Irish language and culture had continued unchanged, the Great Blasket Island was a place of enormous interest to those seeking traditional Irish narratives. Muiris Ó Súilleabháin was persuaded to write his memoirs by <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Derwent_Thomson> George Thomson, a linguist and professor of Greek who had come to the island to hear and learn the Irish language. It was Thomson who encouraged him to go into the Guards, rather than emigrate to America as most of the young people did. <http://mykerryancestors.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/MKA-Blog-Fiche-Bliai n-ag-Fas.png> Thomson edited and assembled the memoir, and arranged for its translation into English with the help of Moya Llewelyn Davies. Following the death of his mother when he was six months old, Ó Súilleabháin was raised in an institution in Dingle, Co. Kerry. Aged eight, he returned to Great Blasket Island to live with his father, grandfather and the rest of his siblings, and learnt the native language. He joined the Garda Síochána in Dublin in 1927 and was stationed in the Gaeltacht area of Connemara, where he kept up contact with George Thomson. In 1934, Ó Súilleabháin left the Guards and settled in Connemara. He drowned on 25 June 1950, while swimming off the Connemara coast. Follow the link above for the entire article.

    3. There are a number of mentions of Maulinagh in the church records on Irishgenealogy.ie in the parish of Rathmore eg http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/a1cde90420043 See if you can spot one of the families listed there in the 1901 census. It could have been a mis-spelling by a priest of a townland in the parish? The new URL for IreAtlas is http://www.thecore.com/cgi-bin/iresrch (That's why I prefer remembering Keywords) The exact Maulinagh spelling doesn't come up, so I tried places starting with Maul. (You need to change from exact matches). There's a dozen possibilities in Kerry and West Cork, so I think you're going to need to look closely at your data source. I'm guessing it comes from a shipping record to Australia. Check if it appears on any certificates you may hold. Better still, post some names, dates and sources for others to look at. This portion of it was included in Kenmare RC parish, at least back in the mid-1800's it was. Rossacoosane lies 3 to 4 miles W of Kenmare town, and stretches from the Kenmare River estuary northward for about 2 miles. At the southern end of the townland, at the N 70 national road (the "Ring of Kerry"), there is an RC church - which might be considered as being in "Templenoe", although there is no townland of that name. If you are having trouble finding the townland on a map, the similarly-large townland of Greenane lies along Rossacoosane's western edge, and Lacka townland along the eastern edge. As of 2000, there were at least 40 buildings in Rossacoosane townland, most of them in the southern end. 3. Hello, I am trying to track down a "new" Shea. Crohan was one of the first Sheas to immigrate to New Haven, CT (1850 or so) and my Sheas and in-laws, Morans and Gradys, seem to have lived with his family when they arrived in New Haven. The only Crohan Shea I find in Kerry on irishgenealogy.ie is from Caherdaniel. This one was born about 1830. He married, apparently in New Haven, a Margaret Heyes because the 1850 census lists the two of them at one address. I also know that a John Grady/Gready married a Bridget Moran in Caherdaniel and these are presumably the ones closely associated with my gr gr grandfather. Does anyone have Shea, Moran or Grady ancestors from this area? I can give many more details if this sounds familiar. I tried to do it now but it just gets so confusing. Sue
