    3. Hi Trish. Do your Fawkners have a tie to England? I took a look into the Ancestry.com general search and found a "Lily Fawkner, born abt. 1872 in Boston, America. Residence in 1881was Falmouth, Cornwall , England". She was listed in the 1881 England Census, which I do not have access to. (I only have a US census subscription.) Hope this helps! When was Thomas born? Was he originally from Ireland? Who did he marry? ~Patsy~ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Trish Jensen" <trishj@tpg.com.au> To: <irl-kerry@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2007 2:05 AM Subject: [IRL-KERRY] Nova Scotia I have long searched for my grandfather Thomas Jennings Fawkner.in Boston MA but have never found his entery or the birth of his daughter Lily in 1872. 3. Hi Debby: The short answer is "partial". I will paste a couple of links that you (and anyone else) will hopefully find useful. Saint John had two major fires in the span of a generation so the majority of the records were completely destroyed. http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/PrivRecs/IrishFamine/Default.aspx?L=EN&PageLoad=Intro http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/GovRecs/RS23E/?L=EN Those two links are from the NB archives. The first is a more historical view and what the Archives actually contain. The second link is a search function that allows you to type in the Family name for any matches. Unfortunately, it provides names and very little detail. http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/passengerlists/saintjohnindex.htm Lastly, and hopefully more useful, there are partial records for passengers entering the Port in the 30's. It is an extremely tedious way to search, but so far it is the only online site I have found. Sean DEBBYJP@aol.com wrote: Sean Stack, Is the information for the St. John port of entry online? 3. Hi Everyone: I am unsure if you have received my initial email on this topic or not, so I will repeat myself. I am actually an Irish descendant born and raised in New Brunswick so hopefully I can help you and yours. As I had mentioned previously, there were two main ports of entry in NB in the 1800's for any Irishmen; in the South you had Saint John and in the North you had Miramichi. There was also St. Andrews in the South but that was not used as often (considering it is half an hour from Saint John, why bother using it I guess). Anyhow, the problem with finding any information on entrants into New Brunswick is that both the records from Saint John and Miramichi were destroyed in massive fires (Miramichi in the 1820's, Saint John in the 1870's). Interestingly enough, I grew up not 45 minutes from a Parish of New Bandon. There are two Parishes in NB; one in Gloucester County (i.e., Bathurst) and one in Northumberland County (i.e., Miramichi). If anyone else would need info on the Irish in NB, you can email me and hopefully I can at least point you in the right direction. Take a gander at the following website as well: http://www.newirelandnb.ca/ppns005.html#n Mary Ellen Rossi <merossi1@yahoo.com> wrote: My information about my unrelated Wheltons comes mostly from a document put together by James Whelton of Arvada, Co. in ??1970 or so?? It is a remarkable piece of work and I'm very glad I have it!! The Wheltons listed here seem to come from the parish of "New Bandon" New Brunswick and I have no idea where that is relative to any ports. My curiousity about them stemmed from the idea, if one group of Wheltons went to New Brunswick, I wonder if mine didn't go there and then head south to Salem, Mass since I haven't been able to find any records of their arrival in the US and although these two groups of Wheltons seem to be unrelated, they might have been cousins back in the late 1700s. It is focused on one extended family, the Harrigans, from Scull, Cork, who are maternal ancestors of the late noted American musician Bing Crosby. The title of the book is "Ireland to North America: emigrants from West Cork" by Joseph A. King, 1994. 3. My Irish Dohertys seemed to have entered through St. John. They went from there to Boston, Mass., back to NB, Fredericton, back to St. John, and from there returned to Boston, where they stayed. This journey is based on the birth years and places of the five known children. John Doherty m. Bridget Doherty (seemingly married in Ireland) Roseanna b. 1834 in St. John Ellen A. (Nellie) b. 1838 in Roxbury, Mass. Patrick b. 1840 in Fredericton. Margaret b. 1842 St. John John b. 1845 Boston. There seem to have been some relatives in the Fredericton area, as Patrick's baptism sponsors were Daniel Doherty and Catherine Bradley. Margaret's sponsors were Bernard and Catherine "McCalm" (as spelled in the church record) The NB Church Archives could find no records for Roseanna, but all her records indicate she was born in St. John. I wonder if any others have had this sort of back and forth in their families. Ann

    1. Re: [IRL-KERRY] Irish in New Brunswick....
    2. >From what I have read on immigration to Canada, the majority of settlers came to Nova Scotia and then migrated inland to New Brunswick. >From my visit there, the northern part of New Brunswick is mainly French settlers that came there during the 1770's. after being driven out of Nova Scotia by the English. The early settlers that came in from the St. Lawrence River settled in the Montreal area. That probably does not answer your question, but is about all I know about New Brunswick. Let's hope someone else is more knowledgable. 3. Hi Mary Ellen: Have you any idea where in New Brunswick they may have settled? Back then we would have had two ports of entry; Miramichi and Saint John. Any Irish moving onto Central and Western Canada usually came through Miramichi; those staying in New Brunswick or moving onto the States usually came through Saint John. It doesn't hold true in every case of course, but those are the basic generalities. Let me know if you need anything further. I don't have much, but I'll try to help, Sean Stack Mary Ellen Rossi <merossi1@yahoo.com> wrote: Greetings all, I have been helping some non-related Wheltons, or at least not related back for 6 generations, who have an ancestor who settled in New Brunswick and then moved on to Michigan. I was wondering if there was a port in New Brunswick that numbers of Irish went to, or if these Wheltons might have moved to New Brunswick after landing in another port. I know next to nothing about Canadian ports and any information would be useful. Thanks! 3. In looking at Griffiths Valuation it appears that most Wrinns are from Clare and then Cork. However, there were 8 entries in GV for Wrinn in Co Kerry in 1853: Kilbonane Parish (3) Julia Wrinn Lahard Julia Wrinn Lahard John Wrinn Listry Kilcummin Parish (2) John Wrinn Dooneen Edward Wrinn Gortnatona Kilnanare Parish (3) Jeremiah Wrinn Rusheen Thomas Wrinn Rusheen Thomas Wrinn Rusheen On Jun 15, 2007, at 11:47 AM, VonRegal@aol.com wrote: > Michael C. 3. Edel, I will certainly transcribe anything you photograph. I am looking for FLAHIVE and FLAHIF(F), thinking those are the names from which FLAHIE was derived. They are mostly in the Dingle Peninsula.
