    3. Hi GiGi I found the Ellis Island website particularly useful: http://www.ellisisland.org/search/passSearch.asp I was able to find a copy of the manifest of the Carpathian in 1903 which showed my Grand Aunt en-route from Tralee to New York. Her final destination was shown as Los Angeles. 1. [IRL-KERRY] St John's, Tralee.
    2. Hello! Kerry Listers and to everyone who answered my query about St John's. I was in Tralee last year looking for info about my gggrandparents but ended up going to the Catholic church in Listowel where I was told that marriage records weren't as early as I was looking for. It wasn't until I got home that I found out about the church in Tralee, whick may be the place where I should have looked in the first place. I will try now to follow up your suggestions although in the past I have tried to avoid approaching the clery when the reason for the inquiry is only for family history. The other thing about that approach is the donation whick I have no idea what may be expected. If anyone has an idea what the "standard" may be in Euros I would be grateful to know. Just one more thing to bring to your notice, I may have given the impression that I had found a web site with info about St John's but it was only the dates of the parish register which was said to be from 1777 and I was estimating that the date of the marriage that I was looking for was about 1800, so that's what lead me to ask about the parish. There were no other details. Thanks again to all who answered.......Pat

    3. Pat, which St. JOhn's? Both the Catholic and Protestant churches in Tralee are called St. John's!!! IF you want the Catholic records, you will need to write to the Bishop of Kerry and get written permission, then request the records from the church, sending a copy of the permission. If you want the Church of Ireland records, you might be able to get them directly from the church, I don't know, but you can also go to www.ireland.anglican.org for information. 3. Hi, I looked at microfilms of St Johns records in National Library in Dublin. I may be wrong but I think National Library are only body with copy. Originals are in St Johns. U could ask secretary in St Johns to do a search with maybe a church donation as bait but its at their discretion. To view records in National Library u need permission from Bishop of Kerry. I think this can be done by fax on day but u can write to Bishops secretary before hand to be sure. Also note that microfilms in National Library only go as far as 1880 I think. If u have never seen catholic records before they are very difficult to read as entries are in latin. I've seen records from 3-4 parishes and St Johns were definately the most legable. Marriages easiest to search as there are less of them than births. Just scan for surnames (with possibly some spelling variations) amoungst the latin as suranmes werent translated to latin. Christian names however were but u can search web for lists of latin equivalents of Irish christian names. I do have most of Raheenyhooig graveyard in Burnham/Reenbeg photographed and some of it transcribed, but I would need to go back and map the graveyard and try to get the stones I missed the first time. I'll probably have to plot them all on a map or something so I can make sure I get them all. I will start with the old Catholic graveyard in Tralee, since it's down the road.
