    1. Re: [IRL-KERRY] Maurice Nolan & Mary Flaherty
    2. Kathleen Conway
    3. I am searching for birth, marriage and death records for Mary Flaherty Nolan, born about 1835. She married Maurice Nolan, probably 1857-1859, though I haven't any marriage record. The first of the 10 children, Charles, was born about 1858 or 1859. When I visited Ireland in 1982 I found baptismal records at St.Brendan's church in Ardfert, outside of Tralee (Kilmoyly) for the other 9 of the 10 children (born between 1860-1877). Maurice Nolan died 14 November, 1877. The death certificate doesn't show his mother's maiden name, place or date of birth, etc. His birth is listed only as 1823. I don't know where to search next. In the 1901 census Mary is living on the farm in Kilmoyly/Ardfert and her age is listed as 66. She lived with her oldest son, Charles Nolan, and his family who worked (not sure if they owned or rented) the farm. I never saw the 1911 census record, but assume Mary might have died somewhere between 1901-1911. I would hope her death certificate might give me her date and place of birth and her mother's maiden name. I would appreciate any help in getting more information on: - birth date / birth place / mother's maiden name / date of death for Mary Flaherty Nolan - birth date / birth place / mother's maiden name / for Maurice Nolan - marriage information for Mary Flaherty and Maurice Nolan I'd appreciate any information or leads you might provide for my search. Thank you so much. Kathleen Researching Nolans / Flahertys, Co.Kerry; Nolans / O'Neills, Co.Wexford; O'Donnells / McNamaras (?); Conways, Belfast; Linehans, Roscommon

    3. I have just returned from a short trip to the Dingle area and was able to visit the cemetery at Ventry. It has obviously been in use for a long time and has both unmarked stones as well as lovely and recently inscribed granite markers. It is not well maintained and has some lower areas that are almost inaccessible. Does anyone know if there has been a census of the cemetery? I found alot of my surnames but was unable to read or uncover many older stones. Had I had several days, I would have attempted to list the names and dates to share with you all. 1. [IRL-KERRY] FARRELL
    2. Lofquist, Carolyn L.
    3. My 2xGreatGrandfather was Daniel Farrell, b. circa 1813, son of Patrick Farrell and Elizabeth Lyons; during a short visit to the National Library in Dublin the genealogist on staff suggested that Daniel was likely from the Dingle. Daniel had a sister, Elizabeth. Both Elizabeth and Daniel emigrated to Quebec around the time of the famine. Elizabeth married a man also surnamed Farrell - they had a daughter, Catherine born 9 June 1857 - I don't know what happened to Catherine for certain but there are a couple of Catherine Farrells in death records for Montreal. Elizabeth died and her husband remarried someone possibly named Rose Ann. Daniel married Catherine Boland who came to Quebec in 1849 from Co. Clare. They moved to Toronto in 1859 or 1860 with 3 daughters, Margaret, Mary and Elizabeth and then had a son, Daniel. The daughters have many descendants but I'm looking for information on family in Ireland. Daniel died in 1891. Anyone else searching for Farrells in Co. Kerry? 1. [IRL-KERRY] Hire car insurance
    2. Peter O'Donoghue
    3. When she who must be obeyed and I have to hire a car, we find that paying for the car by amex gives us cover by amex for the insurance. Most cards over basic level give some cover. We pay an annual fee on the card and that gives us travel insurance including medical hire car etc. To get the cover you must book the flights and hire car using the card. We only use points for hotel bookings and shopping. Check with your card company to see if they have any goodies. Regards Peter Beacon Hill Australia

    3. Hi Donna Sometimes the reason Hertz can look cheaper than Dan Dooley is that if you book through Hertz.com it does not include insurance. Dan Dooley and other companies irish websites automatically include the basic insurance required by law in the price quoted. 3. Fintan, I did have a good laugh , that information is correct but you forgot to mention that Australia and New Zealand also drive on the left. All the sensible people All the advice for Donna and do you know when she gets there she may not remember a word but just do it naturally. Have fun Donna , life is very short. trish Hi, below off topic but may help anyone driving in ireland, If u hire a car anywhere in the world the driver always sits next to white line as hire cars are usually car type(steering wheel on left or right) intended for country where they are hired. So if u are driving along and come to a T-junction, u should still be in middle hugging white line afterwards. Same with roundabouts, the driver should always be next to middle of roundabout (not passenger) So if u hired a car in Ireland UK and Japan you drive on left side of road with steering wheel in right front seat of hire car using gear stick with your left hand. Driver always in middle of road hugging white line. Turn left on roundabouts so driver always on inside. If u hired a car in the US or Europe you would drive on the right side of the road with steering wheel in left seat in front using gear stick with your right hand. Driver always in middle of road hugging white line. Turn right on roundabouts so driver always on inside. This shouldnt apply to anyone hiring a car but only time above wouldnt apply is if you were driving a car not designed for county it is being driven. Eg if u sailed with your car from Ireland or UK to europe or visa versa. Alot of people from Eurpoe working in Ireland bring their cars with them so they drive next to ditch and have an awful time trying to pass out. Same would apply if u shipped your car from US to Ireland but dont think thats very common. When driving just remember that the middle line (when there is one) should stay against the drivers side > my Brit friend told me that and it really helped to remember making a wide right hand turn and a tight left hand! 3. Hi All, Thank you all for your driving instructions to hug the center line--it is very helpful advice and will be my mantra as I drive around in my little VW Fox with the stick shift! I'm hoping it is easy to navigate in Killarney and the surrounding area. I did drive once in Sydney Australia and, as I remember, did quite well except for the one time I made a sudden swerve off the highway to stop at a roadside stand for fresh strawberries! I nearly took out the stand but he forgave me and was actually quite nice about the whole thing! 3. Hi Trish, I booked through Hertz and I'm not sure if I got the extra insurance or not--I'm hoping I can add it when I get there. I may upgrade to an automatic after hearing the advice from everyone! It is considerably more expensive though. I drove a stick here for many years but it probably is a bit trickier driving on the opposite side of the car... Thanks! 1. [IRL-KERRY] Killarney and driving in Ireland
    2. Hi from Killarney! We arrived here yesterday, Friday and we're staying right in Killarney at the Fairview Guesthouse which is great. It's a lovely hotel within walking distance from the Catholic cathedral, the C of I church, the shops, pubs, restaurants and the library. We are right in the 'thick of things'. I see in the hotel directory ---'Genealogy information available at the Birth, Death and Marriage office in Killarney'. I HAVE to check that out while I'm here. I'll let you know what I find out. Today is our sixth day driving in Ireland and so far, we still have all our hub caps and both of our mirrors. I find the safest way to be a passenger in a car being driven in Ireland is to buckle up, brace your feet firmly on the floor and cover your eyes. On the other hand when I am the driver I never cover my eyes. I just say my Hail Marys and make sure I'm in the state of grace and as far to the right as I can get. (A little humor there). We're loving every minute of our trip. So far we've been in County Meath and thanks to Pete Schermerhorn we've found the tiny townsland called Leaffin in Nobber where my grandmother was born in 1869 and the townsland (?) of Kilbeg where my grandfather was born in 1862. Also got the name of the man who 'knows all about the families and their ancestors' in Nobber so hopefully I'll get more info on this branch of my tree. Now my Kerry cousins are having a family get together on 9/22 in Tralee and besides myself and another American cousin there will be the two Irish cousins we already have met, Noreen, the hostess and her brother Tom O'Connor and 'other cousins' who we haven't as yet met. This should be very interesting. Could this be another branch on the tree? Only time will tell. Can't always get on the internet here but will be in touch when I can. Hope to have some interesting things to tell you about. Pat McHale on a visit to the 'old sod'. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

    3. I had exactly the same hubcap experience. Bought a new one for $20 and saved myself a lot of grief at the car return. A wonderful bit of advice was provided by the rental car company van driver as we went over to get our cars. He said, "Just remember to keep the center line next to you." i.e. on the driver's side. That has saved me more than once. Have a great time. Reply to Blaine_oconnell@alumni.holycross.edu
