    1. [IRL-KERRY] Casey Collection
    2. This is being addressed to the Kerry list and copied to: Kildare, Limerick, Beara and Fermanagh-Gold. Feel free to copy and forward it to any other list you think would be interested. As those of you on the Kerry list are aware, Michael Danahy recently made a copy of the Casey Collection available on that list. I am happy to say that the Southern California Genealogical Society has purchased that collection and it will soon be available for patron use at our library in Burbank, California. This is 16 VOLUMES of Irish records! For more information on the Casey Collection, officially titled: O'Kief, Coshe Mang, Slieve Lougher and Upper Blackwater in Ireland, see the following websites: <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlker/caseykerry.html"> http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlker/caseykerry.html</A> <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlker/caseyaid.html"> http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlker/caseyaid.html</A> We have an Irish Workshop coming up on December 30th, so any of you who were planning on coming out to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl can come and check it out! I have asked that it be ready for use by then. The only problem I can see is where to put it. We will have to do a major shift to fit it in. Michael has told me we will need 42" of shelf space. Be sure to let me know if you will be in Pasadena as that is where I live. So, here is your invitation to come and check out the Casey Collection and our library at the same time. The Irish Workshop is Dec. 30th from 10 am till 4 pm. The name, location and contact information for the library is: Southern California Genealogical Society and Family Research Library 417 Irving Drive Burbank, CA 91504-7262 Phone: 818-843-7247 Email: scgs@scgsgenealogy.com Website: <A HREF="http://www.scgsgenealogy.com"> http://www.scgsgenealogy.com</A> Regular hours for the library are Tuesdays from 10 am to 9 pm, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm, every 1st and 2nd Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm, and every 3rd and 4th Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. The library is also open at other times for special events and programs. Check the website for those events. If you live in Southern California and have always wanted to check out the Casey Collection now is the time. If you cannot come to the library but would like one of our research team to check it out for you, we do offer that service for a fee. I am hoping to see some new faces at that next workshop and am looking forward to meeting more people from my online friends. 3. Thanks to this site I have been able to make contact with descendants of my Gr.mother Mary O'Connor's family , Lofgren & Shine families from Worcester ,in America, with Cheryl L. playing a big part. Thanks to all. My query is -- what is involved in obtaining a Birth certificate form a church in Killarney.? I sent to the Reristration Offfice ,St Margaret's Road ,Killarney, but they couldn't find Ellen b.1873 or Hannah b.1878, and asked me to obtain a baptismal certificate and then re-apply to them. The only information I have is from LDS records that the children were baptised in Killarney and were Roman Catholic. Would there have been many churches in Killarney back in the 1850's? Happy Christmas to all Anne In outback Queensland where the temperature has been 42*C for days.

I keep thinking that my great grandfather, James Turner, born in Co Kerry with father also James and "soldier" could have been one of these British soldiers stationed in Ireland as Turner is not a particularly Irish name. James (the father) would have been born around 1830. My James Turner born around 1846-1848 in Co Kerry. Came to Aust sometime before 1878. Can anyone help me?? 3. Anne, I am related to the Courtney's of Worcester,MA who emigrated from Killarney. I have a citizenship paper on a Daniel T. Courtney born 1853 and the witness on the US naturalization is a Dennis Shine!!! Any relation? I believe this Daniel Courtney is a cousin of my gr-gr-grandfather's also Daniel of Worcester,MA. I grew up in that area and lived there for years, there are many Kerry folk from Central MA. I am also trying to track down marriage and birth certificates in Killarney. I'm not sure if our family lore is correct but we were told that the church my great grandmother was baptized from burned and the records were lost. I found her parents marriage and 3 older siblings on LDS but haven't tracked the 2 younger girls. I thought this might be because the church they were baptized in did indeed burn. I have been trying to search for church fires in Catholic churches in Killarney circa 1870-1880 to no avail. Good luck in your search. If they have one already I can't seem to find it. I'm interested in having research done and I would prefer using a Heritage Centre before I go to Eneclann for in depth research. Thanks, Colleen There is a Killarney Genealogy Center but it has been closed for the past couple of years due to lack of money, personel, expertise, interest and politics, the latter seems to be the stumbling block to get back up to speed from what I've heard. Depending on what area of Kerry you are researching the Tralee Library may be of some help but only on a limited basis. **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. "This is the first time that people will be able to do this remotely and to do it with a names index. So there's going to be alot of genealogical interest in it" said Catriona Crowe, a senior archivist at the National Archives of Ireland. ...................... ...................... Organisers aim to post material on the rest of the country, as well as records from 1901 census, by the end of next year. The early 20th century census records are all the more important because those of the previous century were mostly destroyed. In what Ms Crowe described as "an unparallelled act of cultural vandalism", the census records from 1821 to 1851 were destroyed in an explosion at the Four Courts in 1922. "The Four Courts were occupied by the anti-treaty forces, and they stupidly put a huge landmine in the basement of the public records office, which at the end of June was hit by a Free State shell," she said. Historical records from the early 14th century to the late 18th century were also lost. Census records from the latter half of the 19th century are thought to have been pulped for recycling due to paper shortages during the first World War. Minister fir Arts Séamus Brennan, who launched the website, said it was a "huge step forward in making some of our most important documentary heritage accessible in a modern and easily usable way" ...................... __________________________________________________________ Sent from Yahoo! - the World's favourite mail http://uk.mail.yahoo.com

She was always so secretive about them it used to scare me whenever she would bring one home. I have 4 Paint Horses - 2 Paint-bred mares, and two registered full Paint foals. They are wonderful animals. My Irish maternal great-grandfather, James Irvine, was a coachman for a wealthy Philadelphia banker in the 1880's, so it looks like horses "race" through my family. You wouldn't happen to have any Somervilles in your line, would you?
