    3. Beall Luikae or Luikai Luikae or Luikai looks like latin. Maybe if you put posted full sentence on list the words before and after may help. Place in north kerry called Beale i think. Only place near killarney starting with Bea is Beaufort Regards, Fintan ----- Original Message ---- From: Donna Russell <donnarussell5@comcast.net> To: Kerry List <IRL-Kerry@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, 9 January, 2008 3:35:52 AM Subject: [IRL-KERRY] Translation Hi All, I was able to connect with the archivist in Green Bay and learned that my g-g-grandparents names were Timothy Sullivan and Anne Coffey. My g-grandmother gave Beall Luikae or Luikai, or Luicas (the ink is smudged) as her birthplace in Ireland. Does anyone have a clue as to where this might be? Her brother had listed Killarney as his birthplace (on his death certificate). I also believe that another brother was already in Marinette, Wisconsin (which is why they probably moved there). He and his wife were listed as my g-grandfather's godparents on his baptismal (conversion) record. They were Eugene and Mary Sullivan. So I have a few more clues: another sibling, the mother's full name, and a mysterious location in Ireland! I would be immensely grateful for any help! I know someone who got married there a couple of weeks ago. They are the official government agency in charge of BMD registration. The Genealogical centre hasn't offered a service for many a year. I was down there 2 or 3 years ago and they had been closed (to the public) for a long time. I was told that they had abandoned the idea of a "visitor" centre/shop/café, which was the original plan, and were hoping to relaunch as a web-based service, but that doesn't seem to have happened. I have heard/seen nothing in the local media about the place since, either. The main purpose of the centre was to take people off unemployment assistance and have them "transcribe" records onto computers as part of a training programme. There didn't seem to be any genealogist employed, and I wouldn't be too confident about the quality of the transcriptions, if they still exist.

Known children were Patrick b.1830, Mary b.1832, Thomas b.1833 and Margaret b.1836.  Thomas came to Australia in 1857 but I have no knowledge of the rest of the family. Although the family was originally from Tipperary an old family member tells me they came from Reeks of the McGillicuddy. Any help appreciated. Shirley

    3. There are several web sites that will translate Latin to English. Just Google it. You are right to seek the correct translation. Unlike you, I relied on my high school Latin of 50 years ago. I searched and searched for a St. Ignatius church in Canada, when, in truth, the Latin said "church unknown" (eglisia ignatium -- or something like that). 1. [IRL-KERRY] Break Through!
    2. Donna Russell
    3. Hi All, A huge thank you to the person on this list serve that suggested I contact the Diocese of Green Bay for my g-grandparents' marriage record! On December 22nd I received a thick envelope from them, including the following description: "...I located John Thomas Maria Russell's marriage to Honora Sullivan on 30 May 1869 at St. Peter in Oconto. Their marriage took place in Menekannee (I think) which is now Marinette. Both their birthplaces are listed as well as the names of their parents including the maiden names of the mother so it is an especially good find...John Maria Thomas Russell was baptized Catholic the same day. The entry states he had been Protestant and converted." (His parents names were John and Margaret so I'm assuming the John Maria refers to his parents). You can imagine my excitement as I turned over the letter to reveal the information I have been seeking for so many years. After a few seconds it dawned on me--it was all in Latin and I can't decipher it! I can't read any of it except the name "Coffey" which confirms what I thought was my g-grandmother's maiden name. The town in Ireland doesn't look like Killarney though--it appears to start with an L. The archivist who sent me the information is out until January 7th. I called the Seattle Archdiocese but they can't get to it for at least 3 weeks. So, it seems I will have to wait a bit longer for my answers. Pretty much sums up the life of a genealogist, eh?! A happy and healthy 2008 to all! Best, Donna

    1. [IRL-KERRY] Death of Daniel O'Connell descendant
    2. Ray Marshall
    3. >From The Kingdom Newspaper December 2007 O'Donoghue's tribute to the Liberator's descendant TRIBUTES have been paid following the death of a descendant of the Liberator Daniel O'Connell. The passing of Dr Dan O'Connell of Derrynane, London and Malaysia marked the end of an era, according to Ceann Comhairle John O'Donoghue. He was among many who extended sympathy to the family of the cancer specialist, who was cremated in London on Thursday. Dr O'Connell's ashes were brought to Caherdaniel on Friday where Mass was celebrated in the local parish church, with burial afterwards. "The passing of Dr Dan O Connell of Derrynane marks the end of another link with the great Daniel O Connell of Derrynane, who was the father of parliamentary democracy," said Deputy O'Donoghue. It should not be forgotten that the O'Connell family were great benefactors to the state, he added. They continued the tradition of public service as exemplified by the great Daniel O'Connell when they transferred ownership of the estate in Derrynane to the state. "This was a selfless act and was typical of the family's commitment to Ireland," Mr O'Donoghue said. http://www.the-kingdom.ie/news/story/?trs=cwgbaugbsn -- No virus found in this incoming message.
