    3. Hello Marge, and all, When I read this message, I was immediately touched by 2 words - Multiple Sclerosis. I am going on 49 years old, and I have lived with MS for the past 19 years. At the 'young' age of 30 years old, with a whole world before me, I learned of this diagnosis, "my diagnosis" of those frightening words. I have long believed, and have deepened this belief, over the course of the past 19 years, that God above does indeed 'carry' His children, through all their tribulations, their fears, their worries, and all that troubles us. I have come to believe this 'fact' through so many different chapters of my life, that in fact had nothing to do with MS. The long and short of it is .. because of His infinite power, wisdom, and might, all things are possible. We have only to belief, to ask, and to leave the results to faith and gratitude for all we are and have. Multiple Sclerosis, from my own experience, is in fact not the terrible thing I feared it would be. I know there are some who are a lot worse off than me with MS, and with other health issues in life (physical, emotional, spiritual, and so on....). But, because we take care of our brothers and sisters, our Father takes care of us. Your co-worker, and you, are in my special prayers, Marge. Have faith, have willingness to believe, be there as the caring person that you seem to be, and leave the rest to the Father. I, too, knew a living saint in my life. She was my paternal grandmother, a strong, loving woman of County Cork stock!! It can be such a comfort, sometimes, to silently have a chat with those 'living saints' of our lives, who may no longer be with us, of this world, but who still continue to be so special to us. Have a few words with that priest from Tralee - it can bring some ease and comfort. God Bless, Brian Dore Franklin, Indiana (searching Dore from Kerry - possibly from Duagh, circa 1860-70) KerryKuzzin@cs.com wrote: Hi Friends (on my lists), I have a very important favor to ask. 3. An Irishman moves into a tiny village in Kerry, near Knocknagoshel, walks into the pub and promptly orders three beers. The bartender raises his eyebrows, but serves the man three beers, which he drinks quietly at a table, alone. An hour later, the man has finished the three beers and orders three more. This happens yet again. The next evening the man again orders and drinks three beers at a time, several times. Soon the entire town is whispering about the "Man Who Orders Three Beers." Finally, a week later, the bartender broaches the subject on behalf of the town. "I don't mean to pry, but folks around here are wondering why you always order three beers?" "Tis odd, isn't it?" the man replies, "You see, I have two brothers, and one went to America, and the other to Australia. We promised each other that we would always order an extra two beers whenever we drank as a way of keeping up the family bond." The bartender and the whole town were pleased with this answer, and soon the "Man Who Orders Three Beers" became a local celebrity and source of pride to the village, even to the extent that out-of-towners would come to watch him drink. Then, one day, the man comes in and orders only two beers. The bartender pours them with a heavy heart. This continues for the rest of the evening: he orders only two beers. The word flies around town. Prayers are offered for the soul of one of the brothers. The next day, the bartender says to the man, "Folks around here, me first of all, want to offer condolences to you for the death of your brother. You know-the two beers and all...." The man ponders this for a moment, then replies, "You'll be happy to hear that my two brothers are alive and well. It's just that I, myself, have decided to give up drinking for Lent.

Google tells us that the IGSI has an excellent paper written by Kyle Betit, an extremely knowledgeable research genealogist, on the Irish Estate Papers here: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irish/igsi_published/cens-sub/betit.htm You might contact the IGSI also and inquire about the status of their Estate Paper indexing project that ten years ago began to finance work being by Trinity College or someone with access to index those Estate Papers whose locations were known. I don't see any reference to it on the IGSI home page (which is finally joining the Internet). -----Original Message----- From: irl-kerry-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-kerry-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Declan O'Connor Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 4:39 PM To: IRL-KERRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [IRL-KERRY] Lord Ventry's estate papers A likely location is ...THE IRISH LAND COMMISSION. To: <IRELAND-L@rootsweb.com> PREPARING FOR THE STATION During March and October Mass was celebrated in each townland; much painting and cleaning took up the time beforehand. Each piece of wood had to be prepared; poor chimney draughts made the drying of paint difficult. Everyone worried that the neighbours might get their clothes ruined, or that the priest's wide cloak might blow against the door post. China dishes were washed and scoured. Old white tablecloths with silvery designs were washed and starched; the ironing brought up the pattern. The towels edged with heavy lace were used for the small tables, where the priest laid his particles before saying Mass. Bedspreads never seen before came out of old trunks, the Sacred Heart Lamp was polished along with brass candlesticks. The priest gave a sermon telling us to love our neighbour. If a family from the townland was missing it was assumed a row was brewing, or it could be that they wanted to avoid the next turn for Mass. The priest never left without a volunteer promising to take the next Station. Lots of food was served for breakfast in the parlour. -- Mary Guckian

    3. I'd like to thank all the wonderful people on the Rootsweb lists that I belong to. With your help, a birth record for my Lizzie Kelley was found for Hadley, MA (thanks Monica!), and I got some good information on other records to search for. I guess most of us know that the US censuses aren't perfect, but they sure are pretty important. Good luck to all of you. ~Patsy~ ----- Original Message ----- From: PatsiGen To: Kelly List ; kelley@rootsweb.com Cc: Kerry List Sent: Wednesday, February 06, 2008 1:03 PM Subject: NY Birth Records Hi all. I'm hoping someone could help me on the next step I should take to try to find a birth record. My KELLY ancestors all emigrated from Glenflesk, Co. Kerry between the years of 1870 and 1883. I believe one of the first ones to arrive in America was DENNIS KELLY (also went by KELLEY). He married Ellen McCARTHY from Mineville, NY, and their only daughter, Lizzie, was born in June 1888, according to the 1900 US Census. This census also says she was born in New York. So, I believe Dennis was in New York, and met his wife in NY. Dennis and his family eventually moved to Hadley, Massachusetts. Dennis died in June 1898, and his will stated that his daughter would be sent to Mineville, NY and be under guardianship of her uncle, Rev. FLORENCE MCCARTHY. Sure enough, Mineville is where I found his wife and daughter in the 1900 census mentioned above. Ellen and Lizzie were living with the Rev. Florence McCarthy. Lizzie's birth year was confirmed to be around 1888 by the fact that her father died in June 1898, and she was "11" in the June 1900 census. I had sent a request for her birth certificate copy to the New York State Department of Health Vital Records Section early in 2007. I paid for a 3-year search. I've just received word that they could not find her birth record. One of my questions is, would it be unusual for a child not to have registered birth record? I realize that the census information is not always accurate, but because Ellen McCarthy can be found in Mineville, NY in the 1880 and 1900 censuses, I am sure Dennis must have met her in NY. I found a Dennis Kelley in NY in the 1880 census, but he lived in another county. The 1890 census records burned in a fire, so I cannot track Dennis' whereabouts after 1880, except that I know he lived in Hadley, MA next to my great-grandfather, his brother. Dennis was buried in Hadley, but Ellen and Lizzie's names are not mentioned on his headstone. I do plan to ask the Town of Hadley to do a search for Lizzie's (Elizabeth Ann) birth record, but I don't expect to find it there. I do not know what happened to Ellen and Lizzie after they were in the 1900 census (or when they went to Mineville in 1898). So, does anyone know of another way to go about this? Any ideas on how to find a birth record for Lizzie? Thanks, ~Patsy~ Researching KELLY and O'DONOGHUE of the Iron Mills (aka Old Forge) area of Glen Flesk.
