    3. I can understand your question. I have one indirect ancestor who had twelve children from 1852 through 1889. I still have not figured out how old she was when she started and ended. I quit when I figured she was 12 for the first child and 49 for the last. Jan 10, 2011 03:01:21 AM, [email protected] wrote: =========================================== Today's Topics: 1. Her father's name was given at her marriage as Denis Sheehan. Unlike her husband, we had never known where she was born or brought up. Then, in the English 1911 census, she wrote down as her place of birth, Castlemaine. I could find no Margaret Sheehans with a father's name Denis in the parishes in and around Castlemaine except one - in Milltown which is just south of Castlemaine in 1827. The only trouble with this was that it would have had my g grandmother having children up to her fifties, when her last child, my grandfather was born to her at the grand old age of almost 55! Most of her children died as babies or young infants. My question is this: How likely is this to be accurate? Or, would it have been more probable that the first Margaret Sheehan died as a child, and that this was a later child given the same name but NOT registered in the parish baptisms?? Are there holes in the parish records in this area of Kerry? 2. Anne Marie, you could try unsubscribing and re-subscribing again. I used to get only this list's messages by having to download them, but for some reason that doesn't happen anymore-I get them directly. I also found this at f http://www.mywebserver.org/us/help/faqs/supportFAQ.shtml : Q: How do I decode an uploaded file its in a . mim format ? A: Web Browsers send files in a mime wrapper. For your protection file uploads are kept in this format . There is no way to execute a program that is enclosed within this mime wrapper. This protects you from viruses and hackers. You must use a mime extraction program like The My Web Server File Extractor to decode these files. You can find the MyWebServer File Extractor in the downloads section of this web site Click Here for more information. 2. Lib writes: === the address is given as Carrubog, Tuoh [parish/congregation=Killarney] <snip> There are other baptisms..........but the parish/congregation is given as Killorglin - the addresses vary, Carhubeg, Tullamore, Cappaganeen. I had thought that Carhubeg and Carrubog where the same place - but not so certain now. If it is not the same place - where is Carrubog? === Lib, I'm quite sure that there is no Carrubog. There are only two townlands in Kerry with "bog" in the name (thanks again, John Broderick), and they start with "B". Carhoobeg is in Knockane civil parish, a mile or so WNW of Beaufort village, jiust NW of Loch Leane. Cappaganneen is two miles south of Carhoobeg, also in Knockane civil parish. I won't be much help on the RC parishes, as I don't do any genealogy - and hence, I don't have to worry about the continual changes in the RC parish "boundaries"......the civil parishes have remained essentially constant since the 1830's, and they suit most of my needs (primarily archaeology). Mitchell's maps of the RC parishes, from his "A New Genealogical Atlas of Ireland", are based on the Catholic parish structures in the "middle years of the 19th century". Based on the Kerry map, it would appear that Carhoobeg is firmly in the Killorglin RC parish, while Cappaganneen is close to a border-line between Killorglin and Beaufort (Tough) RC parishes. That's a about all I have on the historical RC parishes (I'm looking for a good History of the Diocese of Kerry - Reidy's book seems to be "unavailable", although I'm still working on an ILL for it). The Tullamore you mentioned doesn't seem to be in the area at all. There might be a townland 'sub-denomination' called Tullamore in your area, but the only two actual townlands that would fit the name are Tullamore and Tulla More......and both of them are well-northish of Listowel. I think that's about it for now. If you have any further questions, drop me a line. 3. *May I wish all Kerry-roots listers a happy New Year. Does anybody know whether the name Cournane as it appeared in Glenns/Poulagour in the 1780-90s was aversion of Courtney? If not can sombody tell me what the origins of it are please? and whether it couls have been used a version of Courtney. On the digitized I have found another great version of Poulagour/Paulagaur/Poulagower. The latest is Baulagaure used in a transcription of record from 1788. In fairness the "B" could have been a flourish of the pen for the "P". It all adds to the richness of the search. Regards to all Finbar *

    3. I'd like to second the New Years' greetings to the list. And, as long as Finbar brought up the subject of variant spellings. . . . My Reidys came from Meenleitrim North townland in Castleisland Civil Parish, formerly Brosna R.C. parish, now Knocknagoshel R.C. since 1916. Occasionally, though, I see a phonetical spelling along the order of "Beenleitrim." Are the letters "M" and "B" pronounced somewhat similarly in Irish? They are kinda of similar if your nose is really stuffed up, especially a "terminal M." "P" and "B" are very similar in English.
