    1. [IRL-KERRY] Corridan/Barrett marriage, Lixnaw
    2. For several years, I have been seeking the marriage information of my great great grandparents, Edward/Edmond Barrett and Mary Corridan. Late last year, I saw a reply from a Paul Corridan on the Kerry mailing list regarding the marriage of Edward Barrett of Gortnaminch and Mary Corridan. Apparently the information was contained in the Lixnaw Register of marriages #9 of 1867...I'm hoping that the year is incorrect because some of the children were baptized earlier but does anyone know what the Lixnaw register of marriages might be? I can't find a corresponding date of marriage either on the irishgenealogy site nor on the familysearch.org site. Any advice would be appreciated.. Ed O'Connor

    3. I'm writing to check if an old news item that I read recently was correct or not - unfortunately my husband did his usual recycling of the newspaper before I could stop him so I don't have the piece to hand but it went something like this; The British kept control over an island in Bantry Bay - Bear Island? - and used it during WW2 as a military station. Was this correct? I have never seen anything about this before and it does seem unlikely, but I do remember that Churchill wanted to get the city of Cork and the southern coast of Ireland back to use as bases against the German Navy. 3. Marlene: Saw your post on the Kerry site and couldn't resist not responding even if we have not much to offer. My wife's great grandfather was Michael Cronin Baptised in 1829 at Castle Island Parish, County Kerry. This is 15 to 20 miles northeast of Killarney. Michaels parents were Bartholomew Cronin and Honora O'Brien. Bartholomew was born ca 1800. The family has an old book where Bartley wrote Toorenamult so we beilieve that's where he was from. (It's about 8 miles Southeast of Castle Island) Been there twice and met one family but couldn't really connect the generations. Michael was a populat name in the family we met. You wrote your family was from Castleland- do you think it's Castle Island or a different place? Assume your in Australia and hope your not in the flood area. Regards- Bill in Montana USA

    3. I have a question for all of you out there, but first I must say thank you to you for helping direct me toward the irishgenealogy/church records. I have found family there which is the most progress I have made in 15 years. My question is this: I found my gggrandfather;s parents, Michael O'Connor (Connor) and Catherine Fallahy (Fallahee) just as Bryan (gggrandfather) named them. I find two records, in Listowel, one is 1808 for the birth of Bartholomew, and one in 1825 for the birth of Cornelius. They supposedlyl had 15 children. There are no other entries that I can find, including Bryan's who supposedly was born in 1830. Are there church records still being transcribed, am I looking in the wrong area, does anyone have any ideas how and where I can expand my search.? Bryan stated he was from Muhrer but Cornelius' birth said Cloupruihis. I realize that alot of these townlands might have been close and that they may have moved around but I am baffled by the fact that there is no records in 17 years, or later than 1825. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,. Diane O'Connor Kern

It was written by....Patrick Sugrue ( in English ),who was from..Goleen ( Burnham ), near, Lord Ventry's house, and is a 'sweep' of every Townland in the Corkaguiney Barony. It's obvious that ..Patrick ( the Author)..visited each Townland, and consulted with the 'Village Elders' there.. Dec.....

    2. Declan O'Connor
    3. Thanks for reply,Bernie In my 1930's ( Gaelic ) book, I see 25 local names for topographical features in ..Minard West. The names of these townland features often connect with earlier residents/occupiers,and can sometimes help with gen-research.. ( like....'Tom Moynihan's field..). The Book is a 'snapshot' or repeat of the people-listing in 'Griffith's Valuation.' I don't see any which were named after your gen- families . The only personal one was 'Saunders' well', located on the east side of..Minard West townland, and opposite the houses in the adjacent townland of.....Glenminard. In the property census ( 'Griffith's Valuation') of the early 1850's..Thomas Moynihan...Peter and Patrick Kennedy, and Peter Curran(e) feature as..House Occupiers . West-Kerry emigration to the U.S. ..meant..Springfield/Holyoke ,initially. This emigration destination probably started with only a few emigrants. In the folklore of my family, there was one dedicated Sunday-Mass there, where the homily and announcements were in the Irish(Gaelic) language..an ethnic Mass.of sorts..( Latin was the mandatory Mass-language,then ) up to the 1930's. Dec.. ( from a finally snow-free Ireland . )
