    3. I have been so happy to receive good help from many on the Kerry list. I am a member of the Beara list but have been helping a friend whose ancestors are from Tuoist.  I have baptism records for a Lynch family that say" Gleninchiquin" but I have not found that on a list of Kerry townlands. Is it just an area in Kerry ? Someone sent me a link to a park with that name. Any help defining Gleninchiquin would be great .Jane Sullivan

    3. Hi I am also looking for information on Mary GALLIVAN born abt 1812. Unfortunately I have little to go on, other than she gave birth to four illegitimate children, the father being Nathaniel IRVINE. Although the children were baptised in the Kenmare COI Church, I believe that Mary was a Catholic. bye Helen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Maureen" <[email protected]> To: "'cathy carley'" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, February 26, 2011 8:33 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-KERRY] Gallivan and Corridon in Co Kerry > Hi Cathy > > I'm also researching Catherine (Kate) GALLIVAN and Daniel LOUNEY > > My GGG grandmother is their daughter Julia born about 1817 in Tralee, > Kerry > > Kind regards > Maureen > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] > [mailto:[email protected]] > On Behalf Of cathy carley > Sent: Thursday, 24 February 2011 8:37 a.m. > To: [email protected] > Subject: [IRL-KERRY] Gallivan and Corridon in Co Kerry > > GDAY:) > Is anyone researching these 2 Names in Co Kerry Please > GALLIVAN and CORRIDON...Direct lines think from around Duagh/Listowel > areas > Have a THOMAS GALLIVAN Married a MARY CORRIDON. > Daughter KATE Born 1837 in St Brigids Duagh Kerry > > Thanks > Regards > Cathy:) > > > > _______________ > --------------- > > Policies of the IRL-Kerry List: > http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlker/mailing.html > > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message. > > To subscribe to the Digest version of the list, please send an email to > [email protected] with the word 'subscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message. > > To visit the County Kerry Research and Resources Page go to: > http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlker/ > > Share your stuff! 1. [IRL-KERRY] Tranlated Marriage Record
    2. Donna Russell
    3. Hi All, Thank you for helping me with my unreadable marriage record! Paddy provided this translation for me--thank you again Paddy! May 30 anno domini 1869 John Thomas Mary Russel son of John Russel & Margaret Morrison in his 21st year from Linana Main Marinette; & Honora Sullivan daughter of Timothy Sullivan & Anne Coffey of Beal Links Ireland were joined in the bonds of matrimony in the presence of John Sullivan and Thomas Gauze. I know for sure that Thomas Russell was born in Linneus, Maine in 1848. Hanora and Thomas met in America sometime between 1866 and 1869, when they were married in Wisconsin. They ended up in South Dakota and then settling in Washington State. I also know for sure that John Sullivan was Hanora's brother. John followed Thomas and Hanora across the country but stayed in South Dakota. On the census in Wisconsin, they all live near each other and near another Sullivan family but couldn't trace that family after the 1870 census. I have no idea if they were related or not. I don't know if there were other siblings and have not been able to find any record of Hanora, John or their parents in Ireland. I know that Hanora and John left Ireland together to come to America in 1866, per the census records. The only mention of a specific place in Ireland was Killarney, which was listed as the place of birth for John Sullivan, but he died after his wife and without children, so not sure how accurate that information really is. I searched the online records (thanks for sending me the links!), and found a marriage between a Timothy Sullivan and Joanna Coffey in 1832 in Kilcummen, but couldn't find Hanora or John's baptism upon further searching. I'm not even sure this is her parents. Does anyone know what Parish I should search to try to find them in Beal Links? Or if there is another 'next search' I should try? Thanks so much everyone! Best, Donna

    3. I am also looking for a GALLIVAN - Michael, born around 1855, parents were Michael and Mary CONNELL, and his wife was Mary BURNS. They lived in Holy Family parish starting around 1894, after living in Cincinnati the previous 10 years. They had 6 kids in each city! I have combed through the www.irishgenealogy site, and I looked at Griffiths and IGI at great length. I have a suspicion that they may be from Rathea in Lixnaw parish - does anyone have any advice on getting a look at the actual church records there? Hi All, I finally got my big breakthrough and found my g-grandparents' marriage record from 1870, which includes all the information I need: my g-grandmothers' father's name, mother's name and her place of birth (in Kerry). The problem is that I can't decipher the place of birth. It is so close, yet so far away! If I scan it and copy it into the body of an email, would anyone be up for trying to help me figure it out? The challenge is that it was handwritten by a traveling priest who was French, writing in Latin, with very poor handwriting.... Please let me know if anyone would like to take a look at it and I will send it in a following email (as part of the email not as an attachment). Thanks! Donna

    1. Re: [IRL-KERRY] Gallivan and Corridon in Co Kerry
    2. Cathy, Charlie, et al: In Sept. 2001, I visited the townland of Glenderry out on Kerry Head, specifically to visit the Kilvicada Church of the Corridon family (I was interested in the archaeology, not the genealogy). Here are a couple of extracts from the Ordnance Survey Letters of County Kerry from 1841, regarding this site: === Situated in the Townland of Glenderry in this Parish are the remains of an old church called Cill Mhic A Deaghaidh which signifies the Church of the Son of Deaghaidh [snipped the description of the ruins of the church]. It is said that this Church was built by Saint Macadeaghaidh, whose Holy Well is situated on the shore to the East of the Church. In Smith's History of Kerry p. 211 [orig. from 1756, 1979 Mercier Press reprint is p. 110], this is described as "a small Chapel dedicated to an Irish Saint, called Mac Ida where a rood, or image (a rude image, Q.?) of the Saint is kept, which is held in great veneration by an old Irish family named Corridon, who settled here some centuries ago, from the county of Clare and brought their tutelary Saint with them. I have nowhere else met with any of that name in this county." The only remains of the church are 4- to 6-foot-high walls, with the interior dirt-filled to the top......a private burial ground. The church ruins are certainly old, although perhaps not so ancient as the nearby fine church ruin at Glendahalin East. There is a bilingual plaque on this church which says (in English) "Ruins of a pre-Norman church dedicated to St. Erc, son of Deaghadh, a bishop who lived at Lerig and was associated with St. Brendan. Bishop Erc died A.D. 512 and was buried on Dunmore Head, opposite the Blaskets. Privilege of burial here is reserved exclusively to local Corridon families." I can't account for the difference between the St. Erc and Mac Ida names [gr]. Pete .................................................... From your greeting I am assuming that you are writing from Australia. I am researching the name Corridon (Corridan, Corydon, etc.) from Co. Kerry. My great-grandfather, Henry Corridon (b: 1822), and his sister, Mary Corridon (b: 1820), arrived in the US in 1850. They were from the Ballyheigue area and their father was Edmund Corridon who probably died shortly after the birth of Henry. I can trace the Corridons back to Thomas (b: 1708). I cannot identify the Corridons of the next two generations down to Philip Corridon who allegedly was the first Corridon to move to Co. Kerry (c. 1650) and who probably is the ancestor of all the Corridons in Kerry. I have found Philip in the Genealogic and Heraldic History of the Landed Gentry of Ireland. He is mentioned not because he is among the landed gentry but because his daughter, Mary, married a Collis, a son of an officer in Oliver Cromwell's army. I don't know if you have ever used the Irish Church Records site (churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie) but I have found it valuable. I located the baptism of Henry there as well as the marriage of my g-grandmother, Elizabeth Sears Corridon, to my step-g-grandfather, Pierce Rice in 1827. I hope you have found this information helpful. If you have any other questions, please ask. Charlie Corden (My grandfather, Henry, changed our name to Corden for God knows what reason. 3. Hi! I would like to change it back.)

    3. I think you need the townland Derrynamucklagh in County Kerry, near Lough Inchiquin. The 1901 census shows a Denis and Mary Lynch (and numerous children) living there. Denis age 53, Farmer and Mason. Good luck with checking this out! Sandra

    1. [IRL-KERRY] Question Abt. Kerry site
    2. I have been fortunate to find a marriage and five baptisms on the Bap, Marr, and Bur, site for my Rice ancestors. Where it lists "Date of Birth", and after the date is given it says "(BASED ON OTHER DATE INFORMATION)". Anyone know what this means? And in the section reading "About the Record", "Book Number, Page Entry Number Rcord_Identifier" are also given. Does this indicate how to obtain the records from the Parish/Church/Congregation? It further states that the church register page record has not been imaged. So does one write to this church? I am very much a newbie when it comes to investigating records in Ireland. I would like to read a brief summary or even hear a lecture on obtaining Irish records. Any help, ideas, or suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you. Marybeth C. northeast Ohio [email protected]

    3. Could that be a spelling variant of Glinichaquin? Glinichaquin commonly refers to a park these days, but may have referred to the whole valley in the past. It's a few miles south of Kenmare. See http://www.gleninchaquin.com.
