The guy doing this performance sings in the church choir with my sister-in-law. I thought he was hilarious! Warning: he speaks with very distinct southern drawl. The review quotes him.." Some people cannot get the island out of their system. I think about it every day and still dream about it at night. I am an islandman at heart, and will be until the day I die." The review was very favourable, and tells us that the book is available free p&p on kennys.ie. The price is euro 13...or about $10.. The title of the review is.." Darragh McManus on a spellbinding memoir of a boyhood on the Blaskets " This deserted 6-island archipelago continues to generate connected-literature... DEC.....

    2. >From Hibernia College website: "This year, the year of the Gathering, communities throughout Ireland are showcasing and sharing the very best of Irish culture and tradition. Hibernia College<http://mooc.hiberniacollege.com/LinkClick.aspx?link=http%3a%2f%2fhiberniacollege.com%2f&tabid=41&mid=414>, in association with The Gathering<http://mooc.hiberniacollege.com/LinkClick.aspx?link=http%3a%2f%2fwww.thegatheringireland.com%2f&tabid=41&mid=414>, is taking this online by launching the first Irish massive open online course (MOOC) on the theme of Irish identity in April 2013. The Exploring Irish Identity MOOC is available to everybody completely free of charge, no matter where you are in the world. All you need is access to the Internet and a desire to find out more about Ireland’s culture and heritage. Designed and created by Hibernia College, Ireland’s leading online educator, with contributions from prominent Irish academics and cultural icons, this course seeks to discover the threads of identity that weave through Irish history, culture and society. Through an exploration of Irish history, literature and poetry, theatre and film, language, art, sport and landscape, this open online course aims to start a conversation that will continue in cities, towns and villages across the globe. Each week of the 8-week course will embrace one of the themes above. You can discover how each aspect is permeated through Irish identity; how they are interpreted and perceived." The course actually begins on May 27th. I have signed up for it. Sometimes the records include their children and their births. Sometimes the Church has an email address. I wrote an email giving the information from the record at irishgenealogy.ie and the priest wrote me an email that he had found the record and also their children's births. I then wrote a snail letter to Ireland to the parish, including a copy of the record at irishgenealogy.ie and a donation check. Got a certificate right away. You can also ask the priest if he knows any family about. Mine answered. Good Luck! I have basically been able to find nothing on various sites and since much of my information is sketchy, I have not pursued it by paying for it, as little snippets that are gradually being released by transcribing censuses have given me hope that one day I will find them. There seemed to be a lot of misinformation throughout the family on how my gggrandfather managed to come to America during the famine, and I think a lot was kept secret as he became a very prominent citizen in his later years. My O'Connor GGgrandfather was Bryan, born in 1830 or thereabouts to Michael and Catherine(Fallahee???) O'Connor, and he was supposedly one of 15 children. I have found baptism records of two of his brothers, Bartholomew and Cornelius, one born in 1805 and the other in 1825, but no other siblings. And, according to the Irish naming pattern often used, one of his children was named John. I know that O'Connor is one of the most common Irish names especially in Kerry and there were millions of them, but I am always searching as one of the two siblings was born outside of Newtownsandes, I think near Knockanure. 2. Barbie, write to the particular Church for your request. Good Luck! I have yet not found any others from these families who immigrated. I am having dickens of a time trying to findout which OConnor in the double above was related to Catherine OConnor Hanrahan above. I know for sure the daughters of the two families are cousins. So is Catherine sister to my John or my Kate? Would love to find out and welcome any hints from listers. I wish you luck with your research. It's like searching for that proverbial needle. 3. All those OConnors over in North Kerry are probably related in some way. My John Hanrahan and Catherine OConnor lived in Tiraclea. Catherine was originally from Tarbert. I just started searching this line so don't have anything definite beyond this Catherine born in the early 1840's and a possible brother, John, also born in 1840's. Am tying to find her parents whom I think are John Connor and Alice McEvoy, no proof though. The only connection at this point to Newtownsands and Knockanure are my Margaret Hanrahan's (Catherine and John's daughter) sisters who both married Keanes and lived in those areas in 1940. My John OConnor/Kate OConnor family came first to America in 1872 from Ballylongford so yours were here a long time before mine. The Hanrahan/OConnor came in the early 1880's. I have yet not found any others from these families who immigrated. I am having dickens of a time trying to findout which OConnor in the double above was related to Catherine OConnor Hanrahan above. 3. Shirley, It just struck me as funny that you should mention Newtownsandes, as that is where my O'Connor ancestors are from.
