If by the LDS project you mean the project search site, the volume and page numbers for each indexed item refer to the registration volume, but the film number refers to the index. If you order the registration from the GRO, give them the year, volume and page. To get it from the LDS (they've filmed birth registrations for 1864-81, 1900-13, and 1930-55, marriage and death for 1864-70), you need to figure out the registration film number, which you can get from their on-line catalog.
