    1. [IRL-GALWAY] How do I pay for research in Ireland
    2. Karen Meng
    3. While I was in Ireland a few weeks ago, several people were very helpful--particularly at various churches. I would like to send donations to repay them for their kindness. Can I send a US check? What is the best way to send money to Ireland? Karen

    1. [IRL-GALWAY] Response to question from Phyllis

    3. Recently, you asked what I accomplished while in Galway. More than anything, I gained an understanding of the area and how my ancestors lived. I talked with a few people with the same surname, Nagle. Although they were very friendly, they did not seem interested in the family history. Because my family left about 1850, I was unable to find any records. I spoke with three priests. All said that they had no pre-1850 records. One went on to explain that the priests held masses in the fields to protect their congregation from persecution. Any records were purposely destroyed for protection of these families. I'm ready to go back. Maybe tax records or old estate records would provide information. There has to be something somewhere.
