Tim, I just picked up your post on the Galway mail list about Kilkieran in the Moyrus parish. First of all, Kilkieran and Kilkerrin are pretty much interchangeable. While there is a Kilkerrin out Ballinasloe way (east of Galway city), there is only one Kilkieran in the Moyrus parish. Note that Moyrus is the civil parish. The Catholic parish is Carna. And Moyrus is one of the townlands in the Carna parish. The term Rusheen is an interesting one. My wife is from the Carna parish and we get back nearly every year. But I have yet to find anyone who can clearly define Rusheen. The best I have been able to determine is that it refers to the center of the village / town. Now my wife was born and raised in Kilkieran, and we are unaware of any National School in Rusheen. There is a National School adjacent to the RC church in Kilkieran - just east of the village center and outside the area I believe is referred to as Rusheen. Lastly, Rusheenacholla, Rusheenamanagh and Rusheenyvulligan are just other townlands in the parish. I would be interested in what is transcribed on this citation you have found. By any chance, are you related to the Berry family from the Carna area? Hope this helps. Dave Riley Portsmouth, R
