    2. Pádraig, > In the parish of Beagh in south Galway the parish name is pronounced a bit like "bay-hay", with a very soft "h" which is almost breathed rather than huffed, i.e. it is just hinted at. < Thanks for that guidance. I would hav probably gone with a monosyllable, as if it were a "glorified" version of Beg/Beag. I know that "h"s are thrown in here and there, such as Bheag, for reasons I've never delved into enough. If I had the time, I'd like to actually learn a bit of the language (especially the spelling/pronounciation part). I am able to keep-up with the pronounciation of many of the more-travelled places by daily doses of RTE's "New at One" and "Five-Seven Live", plus a few other weekly programs. But someone nearby who I could regularly pester for pronunciations, would be ideal. Not very likely, I'd say. There are a number of websites with spoken words in Irish, but all of those sources take a lot of time - and they never seem to have the words I want <gr>. Thanks again for your help. Pete
