There is an old graveyard on the east side of the N 83 just as you enter the town from the north. The map would identify this as the site of the old friary. But 'tain't so. I don't know what graveyard this would be, as it doesn't seem to be connected with a church....... and Mitchell's book on Irish Churches and Graveyards identifies the only cemetery in Dunmore town as one being associated with the RC church there (cleverly identified on the Dunmore RC parish website as "Dunmore Church" <gr>). But I believe the RC church is farther to the SW part of the town. The friary remains (which I found on a subsequent trip) are in the southern part of the town. I don't recall an external burial ground, but I think there were some gravemarkers inside the (locked) friary shell. This building was the church of a small Augustinian friary founded in 1425 by Walter Mor (add a fada) de Bermingham, Baron Athenry, (d. 1428). Probably 'twould be a good place for Bermingham burials. Does anybody have a copy of the Mitchell Book referred to below? I would be specifically interested in getting the full title, author's name, publisher and the ISBN number. Thanks Peter Mitchell (Searching for Mitchell's & D'Arcy's around Clifden, Derrigimlagh, Ballyconnelly or Tuam in Galway County or anyplace in Monaghan County) ----- Original Message ----- From: <PeteScherm@aol.com> To: <IRL-GALWAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 16, 2005 8:06 PM Subject: [GALWAY] Re: Bermingham/Birmingham > Phyllis at PhyllisM@pobox.com writes: > > << Does any have any Birmingham info from Dunmore Where would somebody be > buried if they were married and died in Dunmore? >> > > Phyllis, > > This will be a bit confused, because I have had conflicting signals "on the > ground" in Dunmore, relative to the map of the area (Disc. 39).
