    1. Re: [GALWAY] glennamaddy
    2. Patricia, My grandmother came from Glenamaddy and I had the opportunity to visit there last October. It is in northeast Galway right on the Roscommon border. There is a website www.Glenamaddy.net which gives a lot of information about the town and it's history. My grandmother, Helen Treacy, was born in 1889 to Thomas Treacy and Bridget Rush. She came to Boston married and had a family. There are Comers and Mannions in Boston that she knew from Glenamaddy, my father always thought they were related but another cousin, who grew up in Glenamaddy, said they were close family friends. This family of Comers and Mannions married somewhere along the line. I believe there are several different Comer families in the Glenamaddy area. I have pictures of two Comer headstones from the cemetery in Glenamaddy. One is In Loving Memory of Patrick Comer, Woodfield Derry, died July 22nd 1985 aged 85 years (erected by his brother William). The 2nd reads Thomas Comer, Woodfield, died Feb. 8th, 1942. Aged 75 years and his wife Catherine died Nov. 20th, 1969 aged 77 years, their son Michael died march 9, 1975. Erected by his loving daugher Mary. My Thomas Treacy was originally from Woodfield and the story goes that the Treacys and Comers lived on the same property. If I remember correctly there were lots of headstones, in Glenamaddy and Boyonough Cemetery, for Comers. Good Luck with your search.
