    3. Pat, First of all the Galway Tithe listings are not on any cd.............. the LDS do have films of the Tithe information - the same as we have here in Ireland. The next thing is that there is not a Tithe listing for every parish in any county and then for some parishes there are more than one set of Tithe listings - whether there is one for Boyounagh or not - well - maybe someone on this list can say. The last - well, the thing is that in my experience (looking and and transcribing tithes for different parishes in different counties) - my guess would be that given what we are told the population of any parish is for 1837 - which is in the same 20 time year frame as the Tithe Applotment Books exist for - then I'd say that if we get 10% of the names of the people who lived in that parish (in any county) we're lucky. You're Luke Thomas Comer may have been a sub-lessee in that parish - in which case his name will not appear on the Tithel listings. He may have been a 'partner' to soemone else and that someone else's name will be given - and then again, with an unusual name like Luke - you'd be pretty sure that a person called Luke Comer was your Luke Comer should that name appear on the TAB's. The final answer re your question is that there is no cd for Galway Tithes and you won't know if your Luke is listed unless you check out the parish yourself - if there is an extant copy of the tithes for that parish................and even if you don't find his name - that doesn't mean he wasn't one of those silent partners Sorry that the answer is not more positive. As to information contained on Tithe APplotment Books - that varies - soemttimes, all you find is the name of the townlands and the total evaluation of them - soemtimes, you find the evaluation of all the different kinds of land that someone held and explanations as to the quailty of the land - and sometimes you find the names of the 'major landholder - that is who the other people named were leasing teh land from - or the incumbent - the 'impropriator- and information noted as per maps that the major landholers have sumbitted re their properties that other people were leasing the land on. The information in the tithes is a real mish mash Jane ----- Original Message ----- From: "phil" <patvon@gtw.net> To: <IRL-GALWAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 20, 2004 3:48 PM Subject: [GALWAY] tithes > What kind of information do the tithes have? > Would my Luke Thomas Comer of Stonetown, which is in the civil parish of > Boyounagh possibly be on that CD? > pat in st. louis
