    1. Re: NOLAN from Barony of Clare near Tuam, Galway
    2. Dear all, May I wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year! I am attempting to trace the birthplace in Ireland of my great grandfather, Christopher NOLAN. According to the UK 1881 census he was born in Ireland (no place mentioned) circa 1839. He married Deborah KELLY, born Ireland 1840 (no place mentioned) at St. Aloysious RC. Church, Ardwick, Manchester, UK. on 26 March 1864. Family legend had it that he came from Clare in Ireland, but neither we nor the County Clare Heritage Centre can find any trace of him in that County. However, a couple of newspaper clippings recently found in family papers - not dated and, therefore, unattributable, record a family of Nolans in the Barony of Clare, Co. Galway. They refer to Ballinderry in the parish of Corofin south of Tuam. Further research upon this family of Nolans has put paid to them having a direct relationship with me, BUT: apparently in a small graveyard near to where Ballinderry House was are several graves of numerous Nolans who, obviously, belonged to sub-clans of the Nolans of Ballinderry.Time limitations made a visit to this cemetery impossible. Research into other, nearby graveyards revealed several Nolan families I would dearly love to discover which of these Nolans can be linked to my family. Is anyone researching these Nolan families? I can let anyone who is interested have all the details I have uncovered upon the Ballinderry Nolans. Has anybody any links to Nolans who emigrated to Manchester, Lancashire, England? If so I would dearly love to make contact Many thanks for your interest in this e-mail. Regards Chris Morley, Sheffield, England. Researching: MORLEY from Mayo, VICKERS from Manchester, UK., RAWSON from Manchester, UK.
