I just wanted to remind everyone; Once in awhile look back over the Rcords, Letters, or other Papers You have that You have used in the past..Today I looked at an old Letter I had among My Records. In it I came across a clue that I never noticed before. I am hoping it will open up a lot of information to Me..My GGGrandfather was in the R.I.C.. I had been unable to find His origins (Family) in Galway. Today reading this Letter it stated (in passing) that He had at least 2 Brothers who also served in the R.I.C.. I have a copy of the alphabetical Names, and service Numbers of the R.I.C.. There are several Men with the same surname as He. I am sure if I check the service Records thru LDS; I will knock down some of the Brick Wall I have been hammering at lately.....ED **************It's only a deal if it's where you want to go. RE the RIC ... What did it take to join up in the 1850s or so? Were young men actively recruited? According to his file, my g'g'father was recommended by E.H. Burke, J.P. (magistrate) in Loughrea in November 1853. After some months he was 'allocated' to South Tipp. About 2 years later he left the RIC.
