    2. If Ireland RC churches followed the same practices as US RC (and I believed they did and do), at least part of the baptismal name had to be a saint's name. Most people called by the first part but some by the second to avoid confusion with a close relative, some others by the two parts, especially if the first was Mary because Mary so common, and still others by a nickname.
