In my family there were several Bridgets who came to America, beginning in the 1890s, and went by Delia. Somewhere I read they thought Bridget sounded too old-fashioned. Don't know when the nickname first became popular. Diane
Apparently from anything I have read - Bedelia is a form of Bridget and most Bridgets prefer the name Delia. It is a Celtic name (Bedelia). However, I suspect that if you like the name Delia - the christain name for baptism would be Bridget as a child was not christened Delia. Just being aware of variants helps in the searches. I have an ancestor born Bridget in County Cavan 1840's who went by Delia.
