Listers: Might anyone know if there is a census for the year 1841 that covers County Galway, IRE? I am searching for the whereabouts of three siblings: James or Martin DOLAN, b. 1822; Mary Ann DOLAN, b. 1825; and Thomas DOLAN, b. 1826. They did not leave for the US/Pennsylvania probably until right before the Famine. Family history says they came together but this is not confirmed. Many thanks. Marybeth acmbjc@aol.com
Thanks to all who responded. Just needed to know if the people who stood up for my John Hyland at his marriage in 1853 were indeed his parents. Married 18 May 1853 District of Stepney in Middlesex Co England in the Catholic Church.

Hi, The 1851 Middlesex Census shows one John Hyland b. about 1830, Middlesex, England and a marriage at Stepney, Middlesex -June quarter- of 1853- to Mary Dwyer. Ancestry .com would be the cheapest way to go for records -14 day free trial- most large libraries have it free for searching. Good luck, Dave Blair, Pembroke, MA
Was said John age 20 at time of marriage. Born 1833, Mary same age, was thought John born Ireland but??? In 1841 & 1851 was John with parents Thomas & Catherine? Could the ages on the marriage record be off? Married in the Catholic Church.

I have just started to research my husbands family FUERY/FUREY from Loughrea and Ballinasloe and found that the family are famous (Galway Advertiser 2007) 10 Furey boys joined up in 1914 and 7 died. My husbands grandfather was one of the survivors Martin Fuery from Tea Lane Ballinasloe. Can anyone point me in the right direction where I could find their deaths recorded and also as they were in Loughrea for the 1901 and 1911 census (even though they were travellers) they were Roman Catholic so I would assume they would have been baptised. Which church please? Also where can I find the muster rolls of the Connaught Rangers/ thanking any fellow lister who can help me. sharon
There is a website for Ballinasloe at _www.ballinasloe.com_ (http://www.ballinasloe.com) which is not maintained on a current basis, but has some pictures and references that might be of interest. The RC church is St Michael's, and there's a mission church [Our Lady of Lourdes] in Creagh, which spans Galway and Roscommon. There is a stale record of the weekly bulletin via a link.
For their baptisms, your best bet is to search the LDS film for Loughrea (baptisms up to 1901) and Ballinasloe (baptisms up to 1900), 1279217. You can search the civil death index on the familysearch.com record search for their deaths, but I suspect those who died in foreign wars would not be included. Military records probably more helpful there. Diane
Hello, Try _www.google.ie_ (http://www.google.ie) Enter: Muster Rolls of the Connaught Rangers or similar words. Good Luck! Joan
Researching Ann BURKE, wife of Patrick SUTTON. She died in Eyrecourt, Co. Galway circa 1847 leaving at least three children - Honora, Anna and Michael - all who immigrated to the US in the 1840s, first to Pottsville, Penn. and eventually to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Ann BURKE SUTTON, may have had a sister Biddy (Bridget) LYONS, who immigrated to the US in mid 1840s and settled first in Pottsville, Penn. She was married to Lawrence LYONS. Also related to this family was Patrick O'CONNOR, born circa 1815 in Ireland, and died in Green Bay, Wisconsin. His wife was Elizabeth, also born in Ireland circa 1827 and died in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Many of you may have seen this already, but FYI from an Irish gen. blog. Diane C "Friday, 29 October 2010 Next major online offering may be entire Catholic register collection The National Library of Ireland (NLI) is planning to scan all 520 microfilms that make up its collection of Roman Catholic parish registers and put the scans online. While they won't be transcribed (so genealogists will still be going cross-eyed and pulling their hair out with frustration at the many illegible pages of records) nor indexed, this step would be hugely beneficial. At present, family historians have to visit the NLI in person, and only one microfilm for each parish is made available at any one time. So, while not perfect, having this resource online would be an outstanding advance. The collection represents, for the majority of researchers, the main source of birth, marriage and death records for pre-1864 (when civil registration started). The project is still at the tender stage, so it's some way off, but scanning and uploading 520 films to the web isn't an enormous undertaking and should be achievable within a year from now. Source: John Grenham/Irish Times" http://irish-genealogy-news.blogspot.com/2010/10/next-major-online-offering- may-be.html
If I were you, I'd look for Burkes and O'Connors in the same civil parishes, then see which of the corresponding RC parishes have been filmed by the LDS back to the 1840s and 50s, when Julia and her brothers were born, looking for their baptisms. People often married outside their townlands, less often outside their parishes. Go to Irishtimes.com/ancestor to get civil and RC parish maps. Diane
I am looking for information on a Burke family presumed to be from Galway. Nancy Burke mar a John O'Connor abt 1825. Their children were born in Galway. Nancy had an unknown brother Burke who had children named Julia Burke, b Oct 1842, Thomas, Richard, b abt 1850 and Patrick Burke. Thomas was in the US prior to 1882; Richard was in Weir City, KS in 1885, worked at a Smolten; Richard's children were William, John, Andrew and James, b in the 1870's in MO & KS; Patrick was in MO in 1885; Julia mar. Matthew Clark and they lived in Cairo, IL. Julia states she immigrated in 1864. Julia's children, surname Clark were Thomas, William, George, Matt and Ella. First child Thomas Clark b LA, the rest in IL. Any information on where these Burkes were from in Galway would be a big help on my brick wall with John O'Connor and his ancestors. Have searched Griffiths for Burkes and OConnors in same townlands and have about 12 possibilities, but even that isn't proof positive. <>Helen O'Connor hoconn@comcast.net
I am researching John Burke (born ca. 1810?) and Annabelle Lydon (or Arabella Lydon), with children Stephen and Sarah, born 1840s. Another wife may have been Bridgett Walsh. It is unconfirmed which woman was the mother of the children. Stephen and Sarah immigrated during the 1860s to Cameron County, Pennsylvania. Annabelle (Lydon) Burke joined them by 1880. I would love to share information with other people researching Burkes in Galway.
