    1. Re: lost Richardson's I need a few search tips ?-1880's
    2. Steve Goodwin <_sgoodwin@cox.net_ (mailto:sgoodwin@cox.net) > asked about Fannie Richardson who was born in Nov. 1879 to Maria. The 1900 census has the following Richardson family in Philadelphia: Martin Head (Jun. 1840)? 59 Maria Wife Jan. 1842 58 Martin Son Jul. 1870 29 Jennie Dau. Oct. 1872 27 Fanny Dau. Nov. 1879 20 All were born in Ireland and arrived in the U.S. in 1882. Martin and Maria had been married for 37 years. Maria had borne 8 children, of whom 5 were still alive. The birthdates for Martin and Jennie agree with the birth registrations for the children of Martin Richardson and Maria Morrow in the district of Roundstone No. 1 in Co. Galway. This appears to be the same family as suggested by CathOneill. Mark may be a mistake for Martin who might have been called Mart. Jack

    3. I have also been researching in Moneen/Williamstown. Unfortunately, I did not see any Keanes in the part of the microfilm that I viewed. We don't know if our Michael Kenny was born there (circa 1857) but there were Kennys and Kellys in the town in the 1860s. We do know that Michael was there around 1880 when he wrote a poem at the Moneen Bar. I checked the Irish Genealogical Research Society website and the list of articles in the current Irish Genealogist did not mention Williamstown. Could anyone with a copy of the journal see if there is a mention of Kenny and Kelly in Williamstown? We are planning a trip to Ireland in July and would like to visit Williamstown. We expect to fly into Dublin and then take a train to Galway. We do not feel comfortable driving from Dublin or Galway City. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced alternative to get to Williamstown? Thanks. Jackie Reiss Florida

    2. Thank you John...will try to find a copy of that. I guess you know that Egan surname is found in that area of East Galway and in Ballinasloe. It was mentioned to me by a neighbor of my 'guide/cousin' when I was there the first time. I think it was in reference of one of my McCormack's or Keane's marrying an Egan. But I haven't come across it in my searches. JaniceMarie Boston

    2. Hello, Kathy. I know just about nothing of 'my lost lamb' Mary Keane's origins. She married my Gr. Grandfa. Peter McCormack [when? and where?]. Their first child that I know of was Thomas, born c1840-45. They lived in Derreen, East Galway and across the bridge from Derreen is Ballyforan, Roscommon. In 1999 I walked over that bridge and was told that my Gr.Fa. had crossed that bridge to school each day! This area is on the River Suck with Ballyfar a couple of miles north and Ballinasloe a couple of miles south. Where is "They lived in the Moneen/Williamstown area of East Galway. It is quite near the border with Roscommon." in relation to that? Some of their other children are: John x2, Michael, Daniel, my G.Fa. Peter, Mary, Anne, Catherine. Because Thomas was the most likely 'first born' son...it could be Mary's father's name....or because they had their last child John 1864 [and he was the second son named John] John could also be her father's name! {?} JaniceMarie Boston PS....I like to think of Delores and Roy Keane as 'cousins'. :) Keane is a very common name in Galway these days....I met my 'guide' at Keane's Bar in Cregss, Rosc. when I went to Derreen that year. 3. Steve As you know your gr-grandmother's name and date of birth you should be able to obtain a copy of her civil birth certificate wherever in Eire she was born by writing to Office of the Registrar General Joyce House 8-11 Lombard Street East Dublin 2 Ireland You will need to fill out a form which you can find at http://www.groireland.ie/ A simple photocopy costs only 1.90 Euro and should give a good indication of the location of the family at the time of birth and her father's name. Some small proportion of births were not sent to the civil registrar, so you may be unlucky, but I've had few failures. 2. There was a Martin Richardson/Mary Morrow having kids in Galway 1860s and 1870s. Roundstone area. Definitely "Galway Bay"! Anne b.1864 Harriett b1866 Mary 1868 Martin 1870 Mary jane 1872 Susan 1876 However,No Mark or Fanny (Frances). I can't find any trace of this family in Griffiths (1855) in Roundstone. So they came, stayed a few years ,then moved on ,then went to America? Richardson is uncommon in Galway, maybe a handful by that name. I know of 3/4 Richardsons who were Coastguards in Ireland. There was even a Harriett Richardson who married a coastguard. Could she be yours? If you want to get birth details for one of this family,LDS film no.0101128 should find Harriett. It will also give the Townland name, and her father's occupation, which might be very helpful. If he was in the Coastguard service,he might have been posted to England or Scotland, where his remaining kids were born. Just a thought! Cathy
