FWIW, the otherdays.com site is up this evening but, as far as I can see, contains no mention of reasons for its intermittent disappearances and service problems. I tried a search but couldn't get any sense out of it. 1. Huge/ Hugh Curley b. 1794 in Taum, Galway, Ireland, m. Bridget (Unknown surname) b. 1802 in Taum, Galway, Ireland. We only have one child but I am sure there must be more. In those days a catholic family would have more than one child. 2. Thomas Hugh Curley b. 1827 in Taum, Galway, Ireland. Sometime between 1827 and 1851 they immigrated to Canada. I think it was about 1832, but I am not sure. Thomas married Suzzanna Everson, daughter of Richard Everson. My notes follow: Thomas Curley was born in Ireland and came to Canada and married there. Thomas and wife Susanna moved to Michigan about 1853 or 1854. Records show that Thomas and Susanna were living in Chinquacousy Township, Ontario, Canada in 1851. Later records show that Thomas and Susanna were living in Paisly, Bruce Co., Ontario in 1865 when they signed papers to quit-claim Susanna interest in the estate of her father. (info from Carl Everson) The 1851 Chinquacousy Census, District 4 page 199 shows that Thomas and Susanna also have Thomas's parents in the house, Bridget and Hugh. There is also a boy named Francis Matdam born in Ireland that is only 10 years old living with them. I have no idea who this boy is. It also shows that Thomas and his father are both masons, and that they all live in a frame house that is 1 1/2 stories. Thomas came over to Mi. with Robert Fitch. He was a mason and helped build the Catholic Church in Emmett, MI. After living in the Emmett area , he moved and built a house 4 1/8 miles east of Marlette. Thomas is buried in MclLeish Cemetery in Marlette, MI. (Section 21), Decker Rd. South of walker Rd and the cemetery is owned by the township. Would love to find another Curley researcher working on the same family. deb in MI.
Paddy- Can you log-in? What happens when you do? Mary-thanks for that reply. I'm amazed that Otherdays haven't replied to a major institution like the Godfrey Library! I bet they paid more than $44! (I note the subscription price has just dropped to $39 US. Is this significant,or had it been reduced before all this started?) I have taken Jane's advice and contacted World Pay. Will let you knowif I get a reply. Many thanks to everyone who answered my post - misery loves company!! regards cathy

If any of you do decide to contact Worldpay in relation to Otherdays, then you need to have Cannot Contact Store as your subject line. Sorry, I forgot that. Jane
Dear Cathy - and every other person on the list who is a subscriber to Otherdays. It seems that it is still possible to pay to subscribe to Otherdays.com. I filled out the form again and got as far as payment. I've just taken a look at the WorldPay web site - this is the online 'banking' system that Otherdays use. WorldPay is part of the Bank of Scotland group - and while they would not be responsible for monies that any of us have spent by subscribing to Otherdays - they would be responsible for any company that they provide for - that is their responsibility would lie in making sure that they deal with reputable companies. If they receive enough complaints all at once they may investigate Otherdays quickly. This is the email address that you can write to at world pay and listed below that is the information that they will require from you. Some of you may have the full details still, I imagine that the record will be on your visa card statement. Jane shopperhelp@worldpay.com "Please provide as much of the following information as possible: Store name and website address - Transaction ID - date of purchase and amount - how you have tried to contact them - the contact details you used." ----- Original Message ----- From: <CathOneill@aol.com> To: <IRL-GALWAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, March 13, 2005 11:53 AM Subject: [GALWAY] Otherdays .com (again) > Hi Listers, > Just want to stay in touch re: Otherdays > > Still unable to access the site,in spite of innumerable e-mails.

Do any one remember the site www.local.ie it was kept up by Frances Dowling I think was the brainchild of Other days
I asked when I was at the National Library and they didn't know either what happened to them. I think they're gone forever. MARGARET TURLEY born Newbridge c1869. I haven't found Margaret specifically,I'm afraid, but a search through the registration records shows only 7 Turley families producing offspring in Galway at that period. So presumably, she belongs to one of the following: Pat T. + Bridget Mannion John T. + Cath Murray Andrew T. + Mary Noon Michael T.+ Cath Naughton Andrew T. + Mary Cuddy Tom T.+ Kate Nolan James T.+ Cath Lucas Newbridge is in Killian Civil parish, Mt.Bellew PLU. Killian and Killeroran RC parish ( these records are on familysearch.org) These families are clustered together in the east of the county -Killian,Clonbrock,Kiltormer,Athleague (Athleague is in Roscommon, but includes births in county Galway close to the border) . You might want to make a note of all the children listed, and see which set of parents best fits the information you have. NB She could be named MARGARET or MARY and she probably wasn't born in 1869!! Cathy

And Thank You! This is my Turly! Although, not my Maggie, it is her sister! When I sent the posting, I didn't realize that I had not checked Maggies parents page, just Andrew's. It is Andrew I do not have the parents for and I don't think the Andrew you sent the info on is the same Andrew I have but I am saving his info. Thanks to you I can add Mary's birth day and christening dat and what are Killian and Kilronan - townships? parishes? I also, thanks to you, have the alternate spelling of the Turleys surname. Here is what I have on Turley and Manion but the only source(s) I have is Great Grandfather's narrative style family history: Patrick TURLEY (Parents unknown) BORN/DIED: Unknown, in Ireland (1) Bridget MANION PARENTS:Martin MANION & Margaret MANION - Same names not related. BORN: Unknown in Ireland (most likely Galway) MARRIED: Date Unknown but probably in Galway DIED: At 38 years of age in Ireland (most likely Galway) 11 CHILDREN: Martin Joseph Turley (b. 1861) Patrick Turley Bridget Turley Maria (Marie) Turley Maggie Mary Turley (b. May 14, 1869) Honora (Nora) Turley John Turley (b. 1872) Catherine Turley Thomas Turley Unnamed Turley Julia Turley It is possible I can get info on all of them from the same film you mention. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. (2) Margaret MANION (Mother of Bridget Manion #1 above) PARENTS: William MANION and Mary MANION (see below) - Same name not related BORN: MARRIED: Martin MANION (Same name not related) DIED: CHILDREN: William Manion John Manion Thomas Manion Margaret Manion Mary Manion Bridget Manion (wife of Patrick Turley above) Julia Manion Martin Joseph Manion (3) Mary MANION (Mother of Margaret Manion #2 above) PARENTS: Unknown BORN: About 1805 in Ireland (most likely Galway) MARRIED: William MANION (Same name not related) DIED: Unknown, Ireland (probably Galway) 4 CHILDREN: Mary Julia Catherine Margaret (wife of Martin MANION above) So my Manion time frame in Galway, Ireland is about 1805 - 1880 from the looks of the above. Lots of blanks to fill in, LOL! Thank you, again. Mary Jo

Do you have a good college library available to you? The "Archaeological Inventory of Co. Galway - Vol. 2, North Galway" has maps in it showing the individual townlands. The townland boundaries are shown, but the townlands are not specifically identified (it's a confusing procedure, unless you're a cartophile like me <gr>.) The Discovery maps - in this case, numbers 39 and 40 - will generally locate the townlands by name, but the borders are not shown. As far as I know, there is nothing on-line for townlands in this part of Co. Galway. Contact me off-list, if you need further assistance.
