    1. Templetogher-Kenny, Kelly

    3. Templetogher Townland: Moneen Here's a synopsis of what we know. Michael, John and Mary (and perhaps Patrick) Kenny were born between 1857 and 1868 to John Kenny and Bridget Kelly. Michael was baptized in Glenamaddy in Nov. 1857. The siblings emigrated to Brooklyn, NY. Mary emigrated first, about 1879. Mary married a John Sheridan and they settled in Hartford, CT. John followed about 1884. Michael first went to England to work (about 1883) and met his future wife there. They were married in Salford, Lancashire in 1886 and then went to America. John married the the sister of Michael's wife in Brooklyn in 1899. He was naturalized in 1889 and his witness was a Patrick Kenny. John and his wife died in the first decade of the 20th century and left three orphaned children. Two of the children were raised by Michael Kenny and one by Mary Sheridan. It is possible that Michael's mother-in-law may have also been from Templetogher. Her maiden name was Connaughton and there were many Connaughtons in that parish. Her family migrated to Wrexham, Wales sometime in the mid-1800s and she married a John Jackson who lived in Holt, Denbigh, Wales. John and his family then moved to Salford, Lancashire. Jackie Reiss

    3. Jackie, If you are interested in Beagh parish I can particularly recommend the book "Beagh - a history and heritage" and the index to that book on Cathy Labath's website at http://www.celticcousins.net/ireland/beaghindex.htm. Required reading. The book is jam-pack-full of Beagh history and names. Cathy's website is an absolute mine of information on Beagh (and other subjects). The index was submitted by Pat Connors, also a strong authority on this and other areas (see also http://www.connorsgenealogy.com/). The book "Beagh - a history and heritage" is a little difficult to obtain as it is out of print (or was a year ago; then a bookshop in Ennis told me that it was going to be reprinted imminently). Curiously, although it had been out of print for quite a while, copies kept popping up on the shelves of O'Callaghans newsagents on Bridge St in Gort so there must be a secret source somewhere. More curiously, the ladies behind the counter at O'Callaghans didn't know where that source was. It seems that the books just appeared on the shelves from time to time. Just one more example of the magic around that part of the world, I guess. If you are interested you could give O'Callaghans' a call and see whether they are back in stock.
