Good evening list, I just found this tidbit in a book "Dominicans in Galway". I believe I have visited the cemetery to which it refers. When there I was told that there were NO records. The following is an excerpt from the book: "The Claddagh Cemetery Book 1843-1881, the only one to survive in Galway's West Convent Archives (where is THIS?) is different...From Sept 1871 the cemetery book notes the names and age of the person who is being buried, and the cause of death." A copy of a page from the record is shown in the book as well and the ages are noted on this page from burials in 1849. Could someone tell me if this is the cemetery adjacent to St Mary's Church in the Claddagh...actually part of it is behind the OLD Claddagh school (Piscatory school)??? Would the Galway West Convent Archives now be the heritage center??? Thanks for any input, Nancy...Orlando ____________________________________________________ Yahoo! Sports Rekindle the Rivalries. Barbara, I have a ggmother, SARAH CURRAN, from Galway. She married THOMAS DIVINEY (Divilly and other spellings!!). One of her sons, Patrick (b.1863), was my paternal g.father. Patrick married Catherine TIERNEY, who had at least one brother in HEADFORD named Peter. Any of these names in your line? I've had great difficulty finding these people, mostly because of the different spellings of my maiden name, Diviney. Hello all, Sorry for the repeated message as I'm sending it to the Counties of my interest... Not sure if anyone is already aware of the following...I gathered the below information from multiple web sites while surfing the net for available Irish newpapers---Looks like we're all in for a treat in the near future....... Irish Newspaper Archive is launching its digital database in 2005, the website will be launched with the full archives of The Irish Independent, Sunday Independent, The FreemanÂ’s Journal, The Nation, The Connaught Telegraph, The Meath Chronicle and The Anglo-Celt. More regional newspaper archives will be digitized and added to the site on a monthly basis. The database runs from 1763 to current year. All the news titles are word searchable and date range indexed. I am researching the families of HIGGINS & MELIA from Galway. Martin & John Higgins were born in the late 1840s & the family came to the U.S. in the period of 1850-1870 (approx.). They may have made more than one journey to the U.S. & back to Ireland. Mollie
Im not even sure which civil parish my family is from at this point?
