This is a brand new web site and it may not be totally complete yet. I would try again in about a month if I thought someone should be there. Also beware of the spelling of the person taking down the name at Castle Garden. Betty Pace

Hi Sandra, I have a Margaret CONNELLY, b. before 1844, married to a John McDERMOTT, b. before 1844. Married before 1860. Children: Peter J. McDERMOTT, b. June 1860, Galway. I do not know if this is town, or county. Other children's names: John, Michael, James. There may be others. If this sounds like anything which would connect with your Connolly, let me know. Thank you. Betty Noonan LL, FL, USA
In her reply re Castle Garden, Pat Wood says she is researching the name Coates. Pat, are your Coates from Galway. I am looking for information on my 2xgreat grandmother Catherine Coates. She married about 1837 James Butler and lived in Kiltormer, both immigrating to the USA about 1857. There are so few Coates in Galway, thought I would ask about your Coates. Feel free to answer me offlist if you prefer. It's a common enough name, so there should be entries. Any info on what kind of gaps are known to be present in the records??? I have copied this info from a headstone, Notre Dame des Neiges, Montreal. Sheila, Ont. In memory of Patrick Lloyd, born in Fermanagh, Ireland, died Jan. 7 1924, age 75. Bridget Moran, his beloved wife, born in Co. Galway, Ireland, died Nov. 21 1928, age 67
For Tom who couldn't find his ancestors on the site.........it states on the site that there are currently 10 million records there, with another 2 million that need to be digitized from the original ships manifests. There are some names and particular ships of my ancestors missing, too. Maybe if we wait long enough............ Pat (in MN)
Hello all, I'm researching the following surnames of East Galway people from the early to mid 1800's: Callanan Hillary Dunn Bennett. I would like to share information with anyone else who is researching those names. Thank you. John Gill, New York
Not so great: I could not find my Heuston family, traveling in 1867 from Dublin; and they do not have the ship "Cremonia", which I know arrived from Galway in NYC on July 31, 1849 carrying my wife's NOLAN ancestors. Anyone searching for Ancestors that emigrated to America may find this site useful. http://www.castlegarden.org/ "CastleGarden.org offers free access to an extraordinary database of information on 10 million immigrants from 1830 through 1892, the year Ellis Island opened. Thomas, I seem to recall the 1853 was the year Griffith was in Galway. SOMEONE, correct me if wrong. Janice Boston In a message dated 7/28/2005 6:58:18 A.M. I don't know if this is new or not and have only checked out an odd one or two of their pages, but, if they are only new, they might be worth keeping an eye on. I get the impression that they are currently only building links http://www.eurowebinfo.org Jane
Hello to all, Found a neat website: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/cultures/irish-faq/part00/ Many answers about Ireland. Joan
New to the list, I am researching my grandmother Mary Ann Cunliffe's family. Her father was Michael Cunliffe born 1837 Galway and his wife Bridget b 1834 Galway.. I know they were in Wakefield in 1865 when son James Patrick was born and then Manchester in by 1876 when Mary Ann was born. Vic Cliffe North Wales
and many of it's variants, are mine in Penobscot County, Maine, David.....Josi is in the process of a move so may be awhile before she answers you..... .... There is an eatery in Bangor with a similar name to Geoghegan .. Many of us just returned from a Surname Reunion, having a wonderful time discussing those long lost Geoghegan's.... -)) and I am, Carolanne~
Carol, Lucky you to be going to Ireland. We have made two trips to Ireland with St Paul. My husband drove three women through Ireland for two weeks on two separate trips. Thus the title St. Paul. There were no problems with signs but in the country side some were missing, but you meet the most wonderful people when you ask for directions. The roads are very, very narrow, and many times you have to come to a complete stop and ease by the other car. Look out for sheep! Many families move them from fields to field and they are known as Irish Stop Signs. Also you will see sheep marked red, blue, green and other colors since fields are shared and this lets owners know which one are theirs. Have a wonderful trip. Hope the sun is out when you arrive, because there is nothing in the world as beautiful as Ireland at 6AM. Good luck and as you will hear often in Ireland, God Bless! Dottie
Hi to all, From the Winter Issue 2004 of Inside Ireland -- "All road signs, signposts and speed limits will be designated in kilometres rather than miles." For those of us still in the miles, 1 kilometre is five/eighths of a mile. Joan
