Let me start this all over again, please. I'd like some input. I have a baptismal record that I believe has an error. The information has been translated and entered into a computer database. The name of the mother now reads "Hartz". A distant cousin has a certificate from several years ago that reads "Flaherty", which agrees with family tradition. I believe there was either a typo or misreading. I think the "FL" was misread as an "H" and the "rty" was misread as "rtz". I have seen "Hartz" now online as the name of the mother. There were no other baptismal records on that date, which agrees with the child's Civil War information, in that location, which also agrees with the Civil War info., with the correct father. The "old" priest had recently died when I requested the information. I was told he had been the translator, and the books were no longer available to anyone. I have received no response from the "young" priest. Would you leave this alone, assume the rest of the info is correct? Push for a correction? I would like some input. Elizabeth

Dear Listers, I'm sorry, I thought I was sending that last message to Dorothy directly. I am interested in you thoughts re: what I think is a baptismal record error. Elizabeth

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here is researching the WALKER line from Co. Galway? I'm looking for parents and siblings of my ggg grandfather,=A0 Henry Walker, b. abt 1815, who married Jane Burke, b. abt 1815 of Co. Roscommon. They migrated to the U.S. sometime around 1839. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Paul West -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visit my writers blog site at http://valona.blogspot.com/

Hi Sue. I have a copy of a Death Registry for the Headford District, 1900. There's an entry for the death of a Mary Lally, age 80, witnessed by her son, James Lally. I transcribed the townland as Clonghanowen, but the registrar's writing is quite poor. If you'd like to see a copy of the original document, I can send it to you off-List. If you haven't already, you should search the Ballinasloe parish records for baptisms and marriages, as well as the Irish civil records for births and marriages beginning in 1864. Diane

I am searching my families McArdle and Conway of Galway. I would be very interested in any information or ideas you may have of them in Ireland. James McArdle was a stone mason, the family first came to Canada abt.1883 to survey Queenston Quarry and lived in St. Davids, Ontario, Canada. Before shipping out to Canada they lived with cousins in Dublin close to a Catholic Cathedral waiting for the birth of a daughter Catherine b24-07-1883. Shortly after coming to Canada they moved to Niagara Falls, NY. USA. Catherine's parents were Patrick and Mary Conway born abt. 1821 Ireland. She had two Brothers Patrick and Edward born abt. 1857 both stone cutters that ended up in Niagara Falls, NY. USA and two sisters Rose born abt. 1866 Ireland and Mary James McArdle born 18-02-1848 Ireland, died 1896 Niagara Falls, NY. I have just reread Sir William Wilde's book Lough Corrib.first published in 1867. My edition was publised in 2002 by Kevin Duffy, Headford, Co Galway. Wilde writes The long narrow parish of Kilcoona, running nearly north and south between those of Annaghdown and Killeany, occupies about two miles of lake shore, and is crossed by the high road bween Galway and Headford....At the northern extremity of this parish, and on the high road from Galway to Cong, although not within the parochial boundary, stands the little town of Headford, still called in Irish Ath-Cluin 'The head of the ford' which contained 993 inhabitants in 1861. There is a nice Marriott Hotel there now. I know that the Lallys and the Carrolls are from there I have a book on that family. I'm on my way back there next spring On Dec 27, 2008, at 6:15 PM, maire robinson wrote: > > I have just reread Sir William Wilde's book Lough Corrib.first > published in 1867. Trying to contact Elizabeth Knowles, who was researching Eagle Hill a couple of years ago. Someone with information has contacted me, and wants to get in touch with you. Cathy
new to this list I have Patrick Long on the England census born Galway 1839/40 One year states birth place as Cloughlands, I have found quite a lot of places with Clough in the name but would like to narrow things down before paying to search the birth records. Also any information on the Long surname in Galway would be very much appreciated

I don't see any Cloughland on the seanruad townland database, but there are 3 Cloghauns in Galway, in Claregalway, Killinan, and Lackagh civil parishes. The Griffith's index shows 13 Longs in Claregalway, 1 in Lackagh, and none in Killinan. Unfortunately, the RC Claregalway parish records have been filmed only back to 1849, and civil birth records don't start until 1864. Diane
