Hi, We have had our first family photo added to the Galway section of the IGP Archives. I thought some of you would like to get a feel for what we are trying to accomplish with shared photos and data. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/galway/photos.htm To contribute: http://www.genrecords.org/irfiles/ Regards, Christina
thank you for posting the Athboy site. My husband's uncle and cousins were transplants. Families are still there. O'Mealloid I don't see the link to descendants and their lives unless you mean the newsletter. Thanks for passing it on. Karin Joyce
Many people from Connemara especially from the Lettermore area were transplanted to Rathcairn,Meath.in the first half of the last century as a social experiment. They would like people to have a look at their site which gives information on the current day descendants and their lives. It is also useful for learning a few words of Irish (Gaeilge) Maire www.athbui.com Athbui=Athboy

Phyllis, You can send me your Carrolls and Birminghams from 1901. I would add them under census assuming that is the source. Griffith's revisions have been filmed by the LDS, and the civil death index can be accessed on line now at the familysearch.org site. Diane
How does one access the following? - Griffiths' Revisions for the Demesne of Eyrecourt - Civil death records for Eyrecourt I am trying to find something on the "free" house and garden of Ellen Sutton of Eyrecourt listed in Griffith's Valuation [1855]. My ancestor Honora Sutton (daughter of Patrick/Matthew Sutton and Anne Burke), born 6 Jan 1832 in Eyrecourt, was probably the step-daughter of Ellen Sutton. Although it has been suggested I search these two sources, I have no idea where to access them. Children of Patrick a/k/a Matthew Sutton and Ann Burke: Honora Sutton - b. 6 Jan 1832 Eyrecourt - left Ireland in 1847. Ann Sutton - b. 12 May 1836 Eyrecourt - left Ireland in 1849. Michael J. Sutton - b. circa 1844 Eyrecourt - left Ireland in 1855. The mother Ann Sutton died prior to May 1847. The Sutton daughters - Honora and Ann stayed with their aunt and uncle Biddy and Larry Lyons in Pottsville, PA (1850 census). Would appreciate advice for accessing the sources listed, or any advice for continuing my research. Jim

Kentucky Irish American Louisville, KY 15 October 1910 Recently the very solemn and impressive ceremony of blessing the Galway Bay was performed by the Rev. Father O'Sullivan, O.P. The beautiful and simple ceremony was attended by large numbers of Claddagh fishermen. The weather on the occasion was very favorable, and the scene on the whole most impressive. The herring fishery is very lucrative at present along the coast of Galway. Recently six of the boats of the Congested Districts Board arrived in Galway containing from 5,000 to 6,000 herrings, all of which were quickly bought. Several other boats remained in Aran, containing from 9,000 to 10,000 herrings each, and those were bought by wire by Galway fish dealers.
I wonder if the YSW is really GSW? In which case it's Gun Shot Wound. Dear Cheryl, Many thanks for the information. I have purchased the record but unfortunately it doesn't give father's names for either bride or groom :( I found the family (minus John) on the Roscommon-Leitrim website and was all set to take out a subscription on Ancestry.com (I've already utilized the free period!) when the site went down for maintenance and corrections. I will just have to wait patiently to whet my appetite with the military records for John Larkin - can't wait to read it as well as the letters Mary wrote. This is the stuff which really puts flesh on the bones of those ancestors long ago! Forms for ordering photocopies from LDS films can be downloaded from the familysearch.org Web site. Unfortunately, this morning I can't navigate through the site to get to the page for ordering forms. However, you can e-mail [email protected] and someone can tell you how. For the Irish civil records, you want the form entitled Request for Photocopies--Census Records, Books, Microfilm, or Microfiche. Fill out both sides of the form, including General Microfilm or Microfiche, where you should note the film numbers, individual's name, type of record, date, place, volume, and page. Of course, you can order the film itself, too, but at $5.50 per film versus $2 per photocopy, the film is cheaper only if you want 3 or more items per roll. Diane

unfortunately, this is the problem I also had. I was looking to see where John was in 1901 (thought he might be in England) that's how I found the military records. He has pension records for two or three periods, I believe they started in 1914 (my ancestry.com is also out this morning). Once you find the earliest all pages are together. LDS film 101148 and vol. 14 is on 101153. You could order copies of the registrations from the LDS for $2 apiece. Diane, Are copies available through LDS? Can you direct me on how to do this or where I can find more information? Thanks, The Other Cheryl I can't find those towns on the townland atlas. However, the civil index is now online on the familysearch site, and it shows 3 John Finnertys born in Galway in 1867. The complete registrations are in vol. 9, p. 26 (Ballinasloe district), vol. 14, p. 57 (Ballinrobe), and vol. 14, p. 458 (Portumna). Vol. 9 is on LDS film 101148 and vol. 14 is on 101153.
