The site below for ordering death cert. versus the LDS death index film. such as 101602- Does the actual death certificate have better information- and if they are reg. on this death index is there likely to be a death certificate. I have one of the lds films covering a ancestor death in 1916 and only his name location - reason for death and signer I believe were on the entry. do the scertificates seem to be a bit better. Thanks Teri ----- Thanks for the Web site. I have a couple of questions. If you have the persons death information from one of the death indexes. Can you hope to gain any additional information from the actual death certificate. Does the site below cover County Clare also. The actual death registration often has more information than the registration you get on line. For example, I got an on-line death registration that didn't include the cause of death, but the registration I got from the GRO did. See groireland.ie for more on what's included. Diane

You may apply for copies of birth death and marriage certificate for Galway through this site. http://www.groireland.ie/fees.htm I see under the research tab is Dublin address information. I am assuming they moved this Galway office as when I went in person a few years ago, it was part of the Galway Regional Hospital on Newcastle Road (Western Health Board). So Phyllis, you might be able to get the records before your 2010 visit. Karin
The message was about a book that was posted and I had emailed Kenny's bookstore to see if we could find it..... and that was it. it looks like your history is quite recent that is good that you have that. My interest is finding my grand-moms official birth record. Which won't happen till April 2010 when my cousin and I get to Dublin and Galway next year. I somehow missed the start of this Kenny trail of messages. My wife was a Kenny. Her parents married in Kilmore in the northeast of Galway. One of her uncles owns Shannon Dry Cleaners. I believe that she is also related to the bookstore Kennys. Her Kennys were originally from just across the county line in Roscommon. Would these folks be connected to your Kennys? Hi, recentley joined this Galway site and looking for info re my Mother and her family roots. Bridget Connolly 1931- , born Aillenacally, Roundstone, parish of Moyrus and/or Cliften. Her father was Peter Jack Connolly (or variation of) c1884-1962, from Aillenacally, Rounstone and mother was Nora Barrett, 1902-1976, from Minish. Where/how is the best place to start looking? Thanks in advance, Jim Higgins

Minish is probably Mweenish (Mainis) island, now connected to the mainland at Carna by a bridge. There are still Barretts around there. One of the best-known pookauns in the area (one of the local sailing boats - "hookers") is called the "Pucan Bharrett." It was launched in 1928 and is still used by the Barrett family out of Furnace (Foirnis), Lettermullen (Leitir Meallain) about 5 miles across Kilkieran Bay from the southern tip of Mweenish. Perhaps Diane can find you the LDS film number for those places as well, if they're not covered by Roundstone. If you'd like to read about the area (and see a photo of Pucan Bharrett) you can get a copy of "The Shores of Connemara" - Seamas Mac an Iomaire - from Amazon, or direct from the publishers, Tir Eolas, Newtownlynch, Kinvarra, Co Galway.
