Dear Everyone, Greetings from South Australia. As I understand it, George Darley the poet’s home was called Springfield. In 1815 George’s sister, Mary Louisa Darley, married Charles Burton Newenham ‘in Dublin’. In 1837 Mary and George and their family together with their housekeeper, Mary Ann Holden and her two children, Jane and James, set sail for South Australia. They arrived in December 1837 less than twelve months after the first settlers had arrived. They lived in tents until Charles had built a house on leased land in the embryonic city. In 1842 Charles purchased land a few km from the city and built a home which was called Springfield House. I believe that Springfield in Dublin is now part of the Kilternan Golf and Country Club which has experienced some problems. My two requests are: 1. Does anyone know any more about Springfield? 2. Is is possible to obtain a photograph of all, or part, of the original Springfield? Thanking you for your patience. Regards, Michael
