    1. [DUBLIN-CITY] Re surname/Family name changes
    2. Margaret Doyle
    3. Hi, the possibilties for change of name are endless. Sometimes names were written the way they were heard, ie, Brew could be written as Bru. My Gran's name was Goff on her birth cert + Gough on her Marriage cert. A lady's surname is Lamb but her Brother was convinced by his teacher in school, (a Christian Brother) that he was spelling his name wrong, hence he + his Children go by the name Lambe. While in hospital after giving birth to my Daughter, the hospital registrar asked me for a First name for baby, I told her it was Aisling and asked her to make sure she had the right spelling as this is the gaelic version. When I got her birth cert, the English version had been registered. So now she has to go by Aishling as this is what's on all her legal id documents. Keeping in mind the she was born 1979, I'd say these mistakes are still happening. Allways take into account that your Family may have gone under a different name. Maggie
