Sorry, FTM DNA is "Family Tree Maker DNA project". For example my youngest brother received a DNA Kit from FTM DNA which was a swab like a Q-tip he rubbed the inside of his mouth with the swab, which puts DNA on the swab and inserted the swab in the tub provided. He then sent it to FTM DNA. This is not the same as taking a persons DNA by blood sample. The swab will then contain cells I believe that show the "Y" chromesone that men pass on from one male to another such as father to son and so on generation after generation. The male "Y" chromesone for a Brown family would be different for a Mather family (I have Mathers on my mothers side by the way). The "Y" chromsone can only be passed by one male to another so only the males test for this. In using the DNA they can match for example people with the name Brown with other Brown's of the same line. You might be surprised but we have I believe about 200 distinct Brown family lines in our Brown DNA Project with a 58% matching at present and still growing. Once you match with someone you compare paper trails and this helps you find your country of origin. This is the link for the Brown DNA Project and the next one for FTM DNA for those who are not with the surname of Brown. Like I said if you are like me and your last name was possibly changed this will also help. [email protected] Use this link to get more information on the Brown DNA Project http://brownsociety.org This is the Brown site http://www.familytreedna.com/about.html This is the FTM DNA site and will give you more information plus you can see if your Surname has a project I do not work for them, I joined the Brown DNA project to prove if we really did come from Dublin, Ireland!
