Valerie, When I first subscribed to the list I had a choice in how I wanted to read the messages from other subscribers, whether in digest form or as a list. As I understood it, ‘digest’ meant that the messages would be combined and the list administrator would send them out as a block of messages every now and again, say once a week. On the other hand, to read messages as a list meant each message would be sent out to every subscriber as they were posted. I asked to read the messages on the message board one at a time. They come straight into my Outlook Express Inbox. That way, I can reply to a single message by simply hitting my reply button on the tool bar. If you receive your messages in digest form, you can’t do this. (Question to the list administrator – have I understood this correctly? If not, could you please clarify.) When you reply to a message, the body of the original message remains in the message pane, more often below the answer you give. If this doesn’t fully answer your question, perhaps the list administrator would post something to help us all. Debby Raymond, Queensland, Australia.

Almost spot on Deb, the only slight difference is that it is the Rootsweb server that decides, not me, based on the volume of posts as to when the digest goes out, if there are a lot of posts it can go several times a week whereas if there are few once a week will suffice. Good advise on your part, it is indeed easier to respond to individual mails if you are subscribed in 'list' mode, replying to individual posts in 'digest' mode only serves to clog up the system with redundant information. Different mailer programmes handle mail differently and some folk prefer to use the digest mode and this is fine also. I use Eudora for example and always have done so I am not so familiar with MS Outlook. On a different note - to all on the list - thanks to the member who alerted us to the books about Dublin life, mails like this are not considered 'advertising' and the more we can share this kind of information the better. Additionally as Debby has pointed out I am always here to help if I can, Keep up the interest in Dublin, we are going through interesting times here with the increased interest in the events of the early 1900s building up to the centenary in 2016 of the Easter Rising just recently been celebrated her in Dublin last weekend Regards Anthony J.
