    3. Mail return is set up for these mails to return to the list Valerie and this is the best way of generating research the only other way you combat this problem is to begin a new email each mail is to copy and paste the mail adddress into each mail but by doing this you defeat the purpose of what the list is about, not everyone asks for what they need they are there shyly waiting to see what you post to the question asked Be proud that so many people are enjoying your assistance its a great thing you are doing Cara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Valerie Garton" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 1:12 PM Subject: Re: [IRL-DUBLIN-CITY] How to reply to messages Hi Debby Yes I am subscribed to list mode but most of the time if I just try to reply it does to the list and so does so many other messages that I do not have a clue about and have to spend much time looking at messages that I am not in the least bit interested in. Receiving about 100 messages a day it all becomes very time consuming. Regards from Valerie in sunny Sydney. [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Debby Raymond Sent: Wednesday, 11 April 2007 6:15 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [IRL-DUBLIN-CITY] How to reply to messages Valerie, When I first subscribed to the list I had a choice in how I wanted to read the messages from other subscribers, whether in digest form or as a list. As I understood it, 'digest' meant that the messages would be combined and the list administrator would send them out as a block of messages every now and again, say once a week. On the other hand, to read messages as a list meant each message would be sent out to every subscriber as they were posted. I asked to read the messages on the message board one at a time. They come straight into my Outlook Express Inbox. That way, I can reply to a single message by simply hitting my reply button on the tool bar. If you receive your messages in digest form, you can't do this. (Question to the list administrator - have I understood this correctly? If not, could you please clarify.) When you reply to a message, the body of the original message remains in the message pane, more often below the answer you give. If this doesn't fully answer your question, perhaps the list administrator would post something to help us all. 3. Thank you so much Cara, for your enthusiastic response to messages such as these on list. We are on list because we are family history researchers. It's great to be able to help each other out when we can. It's so true too, that a lot of folks out there just monitor the list to see what comes up there. Please (smiley face inserted), slow down, and put the occasional comma and full stop where merited in your communications ...grin! Debby Raymond, Queensland, Australia

    3. I have posted requests foe help but it doesn't look as if anyone can help. That's ok - I know my ancestors came from Ireland and if it's ok to stay on the list I would like to. I am in Bath and cant help with Irish look ups - that's why I am here to learn. I haven't the first idea how to go about finding Irish info and would be happy to learn? My family names are Ward, Rogers and Carroll.
