    3. I am in Australia, but have HAND relatives in Ardee, Co. Louth. If you could give me some details I would only be too happy to help your cousin. My GGGrandfather Patrick Hand was sent to Australia in the early 1800's. He was descended from Joseph HAND and Anne McGUINNESS. I hope I can be of help to you. Regards Margaret Heywood Gold cpast Australia. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of conaught2 Sent: Friday, 20 July 2007 12:04 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [IRL-DUBLIN-CITY] A post master Hi Les, I am helping a cousin locate some information on his Hand family. He has Hand cousins in Dublin, but he believes the family originated in County Louth. 1. [IRL-DUBLIN-CITY] Venerable James Dowdall website

    3. Venerable James Dowdall Website Several pages have been added to the website for Venerable James Dowdall. The website is far from complete, my daughter uploaded the pages onto the website the night before she left for Croatia. When she returns in a few months she will redesign the web pages and add a lot of material and photographs. Since the purpose of the website is to gain exposure for Venerable James Dowdall's story, to help in his cause for beatification, I thought it was important to get as much information onto the website now. Approximately ten years of research culminated with the publication of my article in the 2004 edition of Seanchas Ard Mhacha (Armagh Diocesan Historical Journal). The research is ongoing and this past summer I found the will of Patrick Dowdall of Drogheda, James's brother. James, two of his daughters and many other relatives are mentioned in the 1581 will. It was in the National Archives in the Betham Will Abstracts. The article in Seanchas Ard Mhacha is "James Dowdall of Drogheda an Irish Martyr". You will notice the title of the website is "Venerable James Dowdall of Exeter". James Dowdall was elevated to Venerable through the Apostolic Process in England. James was executed at Exeter Castle on August 13, 1599 in Plymouth Diocese and the bishop of Plymouth Diocese is interested in helping to reopen James's cause, thus he is now known as Venerable James Dowdall of Exeter. For those not familiar with my research, James Dowdall was a merchant mariner from Drogheda. When returning from a buying trip from France he was forced onto the Devon coast due to bad weather. When questioned by the local authorities he refused to take the supremacy oath, placing Queen Elizabeth above the pope in spiritual matters. He was held a year in Exeter Castle and then executed. He was listed with other Irish martyrs for beatification but then he kept falling between the cracks and finally his cause was transferred to the England church since he was executed in England. He again fell between the cracks but was elevated to Venerable, one step before beatification. Venerable James Dowdall website: www.jamesdowdallmartyr.com With the help and generosity of many wonderful people James's story has unfolded. Even though James Dowdall was from Drogheda there were several Dowdalls related to him who livd in Dublin and that is why I am posting this to the Dublin list. Beannachtai, Margaret
