Hello Listers. Does anyone know if in 1928 one had to produce a marriage certificate to obtain a passport and visa?. An uncle married a widow - I have photo copies of their Irish Free State Passport 129555 and visa 14667 issued 15 August 1928 by the American Consul Dublin in the name of James O'Neill and wife and stepson Patrick Reilly. I have traced them to their graves in USA but the only thing I haven't got is the marriage certificate. She was the widow of a Leeson St.Lock Keeper. James was also a Lock Keeper at Inchicore Lock.
