I got this email today I can't say I am surprised RootsWeb Administration [email protected] via rootsweb.com 12:36 PM (7 minutes ago) to rootsweb-listowners-announcements Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Very sad and disappointed to read that the mailing lists are being eliminated. They are the most effective method of communicating and sharing information.  I started  about 1995 on rootsweb and have  learned so much, found many relatives and have made many special friendships. About the same time Istarted on the various mailing lists I posted a message to a popular message board - 2 years later somebody saw the post.  The mailing lists have a must better turn around time .  I don't like to use Facebook nor is it anywhere near as user friendly as the mailing lists - or at least that is my experience as an older member. And the lack of privacy on Facebook and selling of our information to 3rd parties is an important reason I don't use Facebook. I see all of my post did not come through. I started to say that I hope there is a reasonable alternative out there for those of us who have gained so much through Rootsweb lists!! I wish there were a better explanation as to why these lists cannot continue. So far most of us are a bit dumbfounded.
