    2. Bob Boss
    3. I have spent years trying to find anything on William Boss. The only lead to origin in Dublin for him is the 1901 census where he was in Liverpool England. It lists his place of birth as Dublin Ireland. What is known is that he was born about 1849 and died in 1935 in Liverpool. He spent his life in various jobs as a mariner. The family has remembered him as the 'Irish Grandfather'. On the record of his marriage on February 28, 1874 in Liverpool to an Ellen (O'Brien) Gansitt , a widow, he lists his father as John Boss. The marriage took place in St Anthony's Catholic Church. His wife was from Irish stock even though she had been born in England.  I have checked Griffiths Evaluation and no luck, also no luck searching many of the pay sites. I have really hit the wall on this great grandfather. Any idea's or thought's? Unfortunately he is only listed on the 1901 census. He is shown on the 1881 census as at sea and not even shown on the 1891 census. I have no idea about the 1911, 1921 and 1931 census's.  Bob

    3. Michelle, The info we have on William is: Service no. 7314 FARLEY, Willm Age: 18 6-Mar From or born: Dublin Protestant Occupation: Lab Sent to: Clare; Cork E I see in the 1801 City Directory that there was a: *Farley Bartholomew, Jeweller, 17, Crow Street http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/dublin/dir.htm I also tried the old age pension website for Farley + Dublin http://www.ireland-genealogy.com/ The pensions sometimes used the 1841 or 1851 census for proof. They were still in existence in the early 1900's when people applied for these Old Age Pensions. There were three Farleys: Applicants Name : Michael FARLEY County : Dublin Applicants Name : Catherine FARLEY County : Dublin Applicants Name : Margaret NUGENT County : Dublin It is £2.00 to see a record. I don't know if any of these mean anything to you. Sorry I don't have more. 3. Is there anyway I can get more information about one of the men in the list? I think William Farley may be related. My 3x gr. grandparents (Thomas Farley, watchmaker and Emma Magee, Milliner) of Dublin were married in 1820 and although I know they had several children I could only find any information for Charles Thomas, Henry, and Emily. But Charles named one of his children William as did Henry so I feel this William may have been Charles and Henry's brother and their children's uncle. I would like to find who his parents were. 3. I was reading a bit online and came across a blog I hadn't seen called "Free Irish Genealogy E-Books". Maybe I am the last to see it. The blog pulls together free digitized books related to Irish Genealogy. It takes a bit of work to look through these, but so does a library. http://freeirishgenebooks.blogspot.com/ I found this mentioned on the blog by Deborah Large Fox called "Help! The Faerie Folk hid my Ancestors". Also a neat blog about Irish Research. http://irishfamilyresearch.blogspot.com/ It is really nice that so many "classic" books about Ireland and Irish Genealogy are being put online. Christina

    3. Have you considered she may have been a nurse or a Doctor and was returning to Jerusalem - Well she must have returned petal, to pass away in Dublin, speculation without facts is not the way to go, Joyce advice to you is worth following through on, but being on a US Government ship does not make her a cloak and dagger girl, perhaps she was a matron even, write to the Hospital and ask, they surely remember this woman after all 100 years is a wonderful age to reach, may we all have that pleasure some day. So a) how to find out any more? and b) Why would she go to Jerusalem after the war? It doesn't seem a good time to be going there, a lot of upheaval just before the establishment of Israel, and she went on a US government ship...... Also I don't know when she came back. The hospital: "Founded in 1917 it was originally a "hospital sanatorium" for the care of "officers or men of His Majesty's Navy and Army"." "The hospital continued to operate for more than 50 years caring for ex-service personnel."
