sometimes the requirement for three banns was dispensed with due to the bridegroom going off to war, the couple emigrating, etc. On Thu, 21 Jun 2012 07:53:08 -0400, Christina Hunt <chrisnina@gmail.com> wrote: > Joyce, > This is what I think too. According to an online translation site: Tres could mean three. Disp could come from either: dispono : to arrange, put in order, draw up (troops); disputatio : debate, dispute, discussion. Cheers. Hi Colette could the E be the old way of writing & (and) ? Is it possible to see the whole certificate and check how the scribe has written his letters? Ann Marie
Hi. Tres = Three. As we don't know what disp was the shortened version of, here's a few examples; dispensati = dispensation granted. Dispensatus=date + record no. may be included. Disponsationis=permission. Maggie
Christina, great idea making the snippet available for all to see. As with others. I have not been able to find a translation. As the words come under the heading "Denunciationes", could it possibly be a reference to Banns having been called three times? Only a thought. Joyce, This is what I think too. Anytime I have checked on an apparent dispensation it has turned out that the marriage had a dispensation because the Banns were not called 3x due to a church holiday looming. No marriages took place at certain times like Lent?. I would check the date and check the Church season for the date falls into. I gather 3 Banns were sometime dispensed with due to pregnancy as well. Chris Joyce wrote: > Christina, great idea making the snippet available for all to see. As with > others. Hi all, Is there anyone on this list who knows of any Heeney's in Balbriggan or Skerries? The family worked at the Milverton Stone Quarry and Michael Heeney was a builder in both towns. He built the Carnegy library. I'm trying to find information on the Heeney, Duhamel, Shanley, Shiels, Martin and Lusk families. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much! Christine Moran has contributed another set of transcribed photos for Deansgrange. This is: Deansgrange Cemetery, St. Patrick's Section, part 13 (93 photos). If you are interested - you may want to look at the text file or check tomorrow when our search engine should have picked up the names. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ire/dublin/photos/tombstones/deansgrange-ndx.htm Sadly we are losing Christine's help. She is moving further from Deansgrange. If anyone would like to help Joyce with this very large cemetery, I know she would love the assistance. :) Thanks! I have a great great grandfather, Thomas Mitchell, born around 1819 in Bovevagh, Co Derry. He was the son of Thomas Mitchell and Agnes nee McCluskey. He left Northern Ireland for Wishaw Scotland sometime before 1847 when he married Isabella Bryson McFarlane, in Cambusnethan Lanarkshire. Thomas was a master shoe maker with a business in Main Street Wishaw. (He had a young brother named David who was a journeyman tailor, who died in Wishaw aged 32 years.) I've never been able to track this family back to Londonderry. Marion, Thanks for writing. I hoped they were of interest to a few of our list members. I know they are early, but I am finding them a learning experience. Actually I don't think Michael left Ireland. He was probably born around 1824. He was a police constable in Dublin. I think he was in the Royal Irish Constabulary. I know he had two daughters, Mary who died young and unmarried. And Catherine who died young and lost several young children. Both are buried in Calvary Cemetery, near Brooklyn, NY. Michael's wife was Mary MANNING. Michael and Mary lived in Arrans Quay on Tighe Street. Edward Melia was the Lease Holder for the home they were in in 1866. A Mary Melia was sponsor at the Baptism of Michael's daughter Catherine. Unfortunately, Michael has been a mystery, but I hope I am closing in on him. :) Christina
