    1. [DUBLIN-CITY] 1851 Census Dublin
    2. Valerie B Garton
    3. This census covers the areas of Dublin City North and Dublin City South. The original record, which still exists, but is in very poor condition, has been indexed by Dr Chart in two hard bound volumes. These records have been indexed by parish, by street name and then by head householder. They are available at the National Archives in Dublin at CEN 1851/18/1-2. As some of my known residents of Dublin for this year of 1851 are not listed in the online version I am assuming that they were not the head of the household so it would be interesting to find out who was the head of the household for a particular address. I am wondering if there are any volunteers who would be prepared to do a few lookups for me please as I am " a bit far away ". Cheers from Valerie in sunny Sydney

    3. Thanks Christina. As Anthony was probably born c1785, the1801 directory is too early and 1824 too late. This seems to be my family and finding him in a trade directory would have given me the extra proof. Unfortunately his marriage to Esther Pettit and the birth of their eldest daughter Mary is missing. Regards, Brenda, Melbourne. 3. Hi Valerie, My g-g-grandfather & his brother were baptized in St. Andrews in Dublin in 1793 and the baptizm was in latin & it said RC after church name. My g-g-grandfather converted to C of I (Anglican) by the time of his marriage in 1820 when he was married at St. Anne's and it was C of I. Possdibly because ofthe persecution of Catholics in Ireland atthat time. Don't know about the other two chuches. Hope this helps. 3. I have finally posted the updated table of memorials and deeds that are connected to both JACKSONs and Dublin. Naturally, there are hundreds of other names mentioned as well. In some cases, I have included a hyperlink to a full transcription of the document. My thanks to fellow researchers Mike & Dawn who have provided me with raw data, and of course to Nick Reddan's site which continues to add new abstracts at a dizzying rate. SEE: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~registryofdeeds/index.html I have also found it particularly helpful to look at these documents in conjunction with the 1798 map of Dublin at http://dublin1798.com/ It has become increasingly clear to me that there are a few distinct clusters, around Jackson Alley which is just off Pimlico, as well as another cluster around Pill Lane. I will continue to add to this page, although it is very time consuming, and I need to figure out a simpler method. I should point out, that three of my challenges in doing this are that I do not touch type, I am a rotten speller, and I know next to squat about computer code and web building. If you spot errors - and I can guarantee they will be there - please let me know.
