    3. Hi, Many thanks to all those who have been kind enough to guide me into finding out lots about this family JEHU MATHEWS lived at 5 Linen Hall Dublin 1820 Directory.1823 he was sitting on the Grand Jury. By 1841 only his wife was living there .He was a merchant in Mancester so looks like he was involved in the Linen industry. I have been reading with fascination about the Linen industry Can SKS tell me what would be the European version of Mathews as maybe I should also look for that version of his name. His children Samuel, 1806-1875 and Jehu became solicitors as did their children. Is there anyway I could find out more about the Huguenots coming into Ireland Many thanks Cheers Marilyn from Western Australia

    3. The Huguenots built Tailors Hall, the last remaining guild hall left in Ireland, built in the 1790s. It's now the home of An Taisce, the preservation society of Ireland, Back Lane, Dublin 8. Inside there's a scroll of Huguenot names. You could write to them for more info. Linen hall may have been a place of industry at one time but it is an area/street/place (residential ) for such a long time now that when mentioned to Dubliners, we don't actually think of Linen, just the place. 1. [DUBLIN-CITY] More Rawlins family questions
    2. Hello, I have long been on the list looking for the family of my gggrandfather Samuel Rawlins, who was born in Ireland to parents born in England sometime between 1839 and 1845. Now some family pictures have surfaced coming from both Dublin and Cork. In Dublin we have four pics that appear to have been taken around 1860. The first is a young man. The back is inscribed Charles R.who may be Samuel's older brother, The second appears to be Samuel's father and the third is a young (teenage?) Samuel. The fourth picture is of a sister, Lizzie or Eliza, taken at Chancellor on Lower Sackville St. in Dublin. We also have pictures of Lizzie, Rebecca, and "Mamma" taken in Cork. These seem to have been taken a few years later than the first batch There is another pic of a woman identified as "Auntie H.M. Landray???" All are well dressed ladies. As I surmise from the pics, we have at least two sisters, Elizabeth (Eliza, Lizzie), Rebecca and probably an older brother Charles. Searching around on Ancestry has not gotten me very far. But here these folks are. My confusion grows as parents are only identified as Mamma and Father. Father does look just like Samuel.....but appears to be over 50 in the picture. It is my speculation that Father Rawlins may have passed and mother moved to Cork with the girls.....Perhaps they even ultimately went back to England or remarried. Any ideas would be most helpful. I haven't had much luck on Ancestry. Bev W
