    1. Re: [DUBLIN-CITY] Springfield the home of George Darley.
    2. Hi, Michael....what a coincidence. I just sent off an email to a friend re my finds at the National Library in Dublin in 2009. My GrGM was was born there in the area of Springfield In a message dated 9/28/2012 11:40:18 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, mjfitzgerald@iinet.net.au writes: Dear Everyone, Greetings from South Australia. As I understand it, George Darley the poet’s home was called Springfield. In 1815 George’s sister, Mary Louisa Darley, married Charles Burton Newenham ‘in Dublin’. In 1837 Mary and George and their family together with their housekeeper, Mary Ann Holden and her two children, Jane and James, set sail for South Australia. They arrived in December 1837 less than twelve months after the first settlers had arrived. They lived in tents until Charles had built a house on leased land in the embryonic city. In 1842 Charles purchased land a few km from the city and built a home which was called Springfield House. I believe that Springfield in Dublin is now part of the Kilternan Golf and Country Club which has experienced some problems. My two requests are: 1. Does anyone know any more about Springfield? 2. Is is possible to obtain a photograph of all, or part, of the original Springfield? Thanking you for your patience. 3. I received an email this morning asking that I let Irish researchers know that they are looking for mysteries to solve. Brochure: http://db.tt/jAPcRABG Christina ................................................ I am a researcher on RTE's series 'The Genealogy Roadshow'. We are embarking on a second series and this involves appealing to people for their family mysteries. We then set our team of experts the task of finding the truth in historical records. Right now we need people to contact us with their stories and questions. It would be wonderful if you could let your Ireland Genealogy Project contacts know about this. I have attached some information about the series. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks and best wishes, Deirdre

    3. I have a favour to ask of SKS who has access to the British Newspapers on line. Here in Canada, I have no way to check without some sort of subscription, but would like to see an article in the Daily Post, Monday Aug 31, 1724 referring to James Figg. Would it be possible for someone to look up the article and send me a copy. I am looking for the report by the Master of the Rolls on the Amphitheatre that James Figg built at the back of his residence without permission of his landlord. There was a hearing in front of the Master of the Rolls in 1724 and I am looking for more information on the construction of the amphitheatre and possibly the address. The hearing took place sometime that fall. Could someone please look it up. Thank you ever so much. -- Wendy James

    1. Re: [DUBLIN-CITY] RAWLINS
    2. Hi Colette, I am familiar with the family of George Henry Rawlins (gs) and his wife Harriet Orr Rawlins. I have wondered about that connection for a long time. I have seen a reference to Jennet Rawlins in earlier records but didn't give it much thought until the arrival of the pics. I do wish the handwriting was easier for me to read. Another Rawlins of interest is one Samuel Rawlins, who married Maria Leslie of Cork in 1795. They had two small children who remain unidentified. This Samuel Rawlins was born inYeovil in Somerset, England and came to Ireland. His father was a Dr. Thomas Rawlins who had a brother George and may have had some relation to the Irish families. George Henry Rawlins appears to also have had a brother Thomas Rawlins, who lived in Cork City and Dublin, This Thomas was also a physician. It is all such a puzzle. Frankly, the pics at least identify some siblings for sure. I believe that the Aunt's name,(again if I am reading correctly is Lawray or Lawry...could be Landray.... Her picture was definitely taken in Cork, Hopefully, more information will surface. Thanks so much!! It's now the home of An Taisce, the preservation society of Ireland, Back Lane, Dublin 8. Inside there's a scroll of Huguenot names. You could write to them for more info. Linen hall may have been a place of industry at one time but it is an area/street/place (residential ) for such a long time now that when mentioned to Dubliners, we don't actually think of Linen, just the place. Now some family pictures have surfaced coming from both Dublin and Cork. In Dublin we have four pics that appear to have been taken around 1860. The first is a young man. The back is inscribed Charles R.who may be Samuel's older brother, The second appears to be Samuel's father and the third is a young (teenage?) Samuel. The fourth picture is of a sister, Lizzie or Eliza, taken at Chancellor on Lower Sackville St. in Dublin. We also have pictures of Lizzie, Rebecca, and "Mamma" taken in Cork. These seem to have been taken a few years later than the first batch There is another pic of a woman identified as "Auntie H.M. Landray???" All are well dressed ladies. As I surmise from the pics, we have at least two sisters, Elizabeth (Eliza, Lizzie), Rebecca and probably an older brother Charles. Searching around on Ancestry has not gotten me very far. But here these folks are. My confusion grows as parents are only identified as Mamma and Father. Father does look just like Samuel.....but appears to be over 50 in the picture. It is my speculation that Father Rawlins may have passed and mother moved to Cork with the girls.....Perhaps they even ultimately went back to England or remarried. Any ideas would be most helpful. I haven't had much luck on Ancestry. Further study of the names on my photos reveal that one sister may have actually been Jennie or Jini. The First letter appears to be either and "L" or a "J". The middle letter or letters look like n's or z's. Very difficult to decipher. Fortunately, Rebecca had better handwriting than her brother. 1. [DUBLIN-CITY] Directories
    2. Hello, I wonder if anyone can tell me if I can access any Dublin City Directories online? I am particularly interested in Directories from the early to mid 1860s. I have collected a fair amount of Rawlins information from Dublin with the help of lists and a very able researcher. Still I am looking for the family of my ancestor, Samuel Rawlins and his siblings. Thanks, Bev W
