    3. Hi John As far as I can see there are still no io lists for Ireland as yet I have suggested (as have others) that the word Rootsweb be added to the new lists description, so anyone searching for a list migrated from Rootsweb will be more able to find it The number of ex Rootsweb lists is growing on io groups Unfortunately some have decided to go to googlegroups and others to facebook, both well known data miners Some may not bother doing anything and just let it lapse completely, I don't think some lists have had an admin for some time Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 10/01/2020 03:50, John Warther wrote: > Nivard, > > Thank you for sharing this information. 3. Nivard, Thank you for sharing this information. It does look promising if I, or someone in a couple of lists I manage, want to start a new group there. I tried a quick search with no luck in finding any existing groups on Ireland genealogy, but I will keep looking. If you have any suggestions of existing groups, please let us know. 3. Another email list platform They are much the same as Rootsweb lists under Mailman only a lot better IMHO https://groups.io/groups You would need to register (email address and create a password) Then log in and search for a group, of which there are quite a few Ex-Rootsweb already ie List admins of a Rootsweb list have started an io list for the same list name It works much the same as our present lists but with more options for both admins and users Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 09/01/2020 21:49, Michelle Wilson wrote: > What are io groups? > > Michelle

    3. Very sad and disappointed to read that the mailing lists are being eliminated. They are the most effective method of communicating and sharing information.  I started  about 1995 on rootsweb and have  learned so much, found many relatives and have made many special friendships. About the same time Istarted on the various mailing lists I posted a message to a popular message board - 2 years later somebody saw the post.  The mailing lists have a must better turn around time .  I don't like to use Facebook nor is it anywhere near as user friendly as the mailing lists - or at least that is my experience as an older member. And the lack of privacy on Facebook and selling of our information to 3rd parties is an important reason I don't use Facebook. I appreciate all the help over the years and will greatly miss our great connection. Go raibh maith agat agus beannahtai, Máiread On 1/7/2020 10:12 AM, Sharon Brown wrote: > It is sad.
