Hi List, Merry Christmas. I have a Baptism Certificate from St Andrew's Church in Westland Row, Dublin. I would really like to find the people that are mentioned in it. There is a Brigid Mary MORAN, daughter of Michael MORAN and Brigid FLANAGAN. Godparents are James MORAN, presumably Michael's brother/cousin/father etc, and Patricia FLOOD. They may have lived around Crumlin/Kimmage area of Dublin. The baptism took place on 15th October in 1942. Anyone with any ideas that would/could throw any light on this would be greatly appreciated. Kindest regards, Michael McAllister
Hi List. What can anyone tell me about Dodger Cottages in Ballsbridge. I have been told it is near to the canal and The Curragh! Your thoughts would be most welcomed. Kindest regards, Michael McAllister
Hello I am looking for the place Carrechue Limavady North Ireland can not find it on Gazetteer Thank you Jeff
Could it be Carrickhugh? If you go to Sean Ruad's Townland Atlas at........... _http://www.seanruad.com/_ (http://www.seanruad.com/) and insert Limavady in the 'Poor Law Union Box', hit 'submit' and among the results for the Poor Law Union of Limavady you should see the 'Townland' of Carrickhugh (sounds the same only spelled differently!)
Hi Aggi-Rose Pleased you got a good result. You had a bit of flak directed at you and others that supported you. Good that it turned out well. Always look on the bright side of life... Best regards and Merry Christmas ...Shaun
Hi all! Since I didn't get any direct answers to my question of whether the Library does lookups for specific references, I took the bold step of asking them directly! Had hesitated doing that as I imagine they are very busy, but I was delighted to get an almost immediate response telling me if I gave them the details they'd check it for me! A couple of hours later they wrote back with the rest of the details on the record I was most interested in [unfortunately parents were not listed - boo hoo:-(] Now, I hesitate in posting this as I don't want to be responsible for them being bombarded with requests, but if you have proper reference from their database and have only simple request [no long list!] you might also be pleasantly surprised with their response! I'd also suggest you report results to the list so that we can be considerate in spreading out requests over time [i.e. if you know someone else has made request recently perhaps you could hold off for a bit:-)] Hope this helps! cheers Aggi-Rose
Right now the Aer Lingus airfare from JFK is a stupendous $179 one way. Why return? Stupendous price...and a GREAT question as well . Why return, indeed !! Thank you for posting the information. Sheila
Hi Aggie-Rose I thought the purpose of lists was to help each other. I might have resources and you don't or vice versa. I am another Australian with Irish roots and am jolly sure I won't get to Ireland for $179.00 or anything even remotely close. If you ever need help on Aussie details, please feel free to ask me for help and I will do the same with you. I have a g grandfather who was supposedly from Dublin but I have just about given up on him. I also have two other branches of my mother's tree from Ireland but, what with records burnt in fires and people who are obviously not willing to help, I have just about decided to stop trying to go further back in Ireland. I realize that once I see what is on the records I'm currently interested in, it could well lead to other records but that was not relevant to my question. And I am well aware of all the variants of the Reddin surname and keep a constant eye open. Hi Janice! Thank you so much for your wonderful reply! Yes, that is what it's all about! I guess some people just don't understand that! I've also been struck by the serendipity I've encountered while helping others. Sometimes I've actually felt "a bigger high" helping someone else break through a brick wall than finding info on my own line! And please do holler if there is anything I can find for you here! Well of course, the obvious answer to that is - depends on where one lives! A return plane ticket from Aus. costs over $2,500 plus right now so most of us down here have no option but to depend on the generosity of other researchers. I forget exactly how it happened ... Some message I saw on a list that I responded to. It turned out that her ancestor was buried half a world away from her, in a church yard a kilometer from my house that I drove by every day on my way to work. I'd always admired the little country church, and wondered about its tippy stones and who they belonged to. So, I was pleased for the excuse to go traipsing about the stones in search of her ancestor. I took a dozen pictures of the church, the cemetery, and many of the stones related to her family, and, with great pleasure, sent them off to her, 3,500 miles away. There were some church ladies there that day, and I asked them if they knew the family name, and they did. This sent me off, down the road, in search of some vague place. I stopped at a farm and asked for more directions, and the wife pointed up to a house on a hill above her and offered to call her neighbour to see if the person under the stone belonged to her. Wrong family. But, I've been back to that farm many times to buy eggs and chicken and turkey and watch the sheep shearing. In fact, I bumped into an old friend there that I hadn't seen since I lived in another town 20 years ago, and we've had good fun a few times since then. Finding and old friend can be a lot of fun. So, Aggie, despite the response from acfullam ... You live among the descendants of some of my own ancestors where you are, and, if ever I get 'round to the branch of my Irish family, I know, if there is some small favour we can exchange, some cemetery you drive by on the way to work, you will take some photos for me. And, if there is something I can do where I am, on the west coast of Canada, I will try to do so. After-all, that's what it's about, isn't it? Janice
Go to www.Kayak.com and plug in departure and destination places and times. The site comparison shops and shows all available deals from other sites and airlines themselves. The $179 fare is one way on Aer Lingus from JFK in New York to Dublin, Ireland. I was trying to help her. Most people on this list seem to complain about researchers not giving them full value. Why not do the research oneself? Find a descendant in Ireland to help. There are different ways to approach the problem. I wasn't about to give her the names of any researchers, and without more detail, I wasn't committing to helping her. I help plenty of people all the time, and I'm happy to see them benefit. Lots of people have helped me. Please unsubscribe me. Thanks and good luck. -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/
Come on guys, Peggy is only asking for a bit of help. If you don't want to help, thats fine, just shut up and stop whinging. Peggy, I go to Ireland now and again. Let me know off list what it is you need, if I can help I will, free of charge. Let's all start helping each other where we can, you never know, you may want someone in australia to help you one day. The fare won't be trivial then...Merry Christmas...From... Shaun
Right now the Aer Lingus airfare from JFK is a stupendous $179 one way. Why return? If you don't narrow your search and focus your questions to what you really need to know to keep going, you'll easily spend the plane fare...nobody works for you like you work for yourself and nobody has the insight into your family that you have. Besides, Ireland is a wonderful place. It took an awful lot of pain and persuasion to make them leave. The complete entries can be accessed in the Dublin City Library & Archive, Pearse Street, Dublin."
