My Edward J. Hayden was born Abt 1845. I have copies of letters from his father dated between 1879 and 1882 and since letters were addressed from Dublin (Strand Road, Sandymount, Dublin) I assume Edward was born or lived in Dublin prior to immigrating to New York. He had immigrated to New York by 1875 at which time he'd files a Declaration of Intent; he was naturalized in 1877. I would like to know which "Port of Departure" would have been likely for him "assuming" that he lived in Dublin prior to immigrating to New York. Also, might there be some way that I could locate more information about his immigration (i,e, date, ship)? I am looking at the Ships Passenger Lists and trying to determine if any of the records might be a match.
My family SOMERVILLE also lived in Dublin, travelled Dublin-Liverpool-New York, but their final destination was Upper Canada (Toronto area). Your family would have landed at Castle Garden New York, and not Ellis Island, as it wasn't open yet. Few ships lists exist pre 1865.
