Everyone is talking about the 1838 directory. Is there a John Doyle as a mason in Dublin? In South Co Dublin, in the Dublin hills, the townlands of Barnacullia, Ballyedmonduff, Glencullen and other nearby townlands were stonemasons' villages. Barnacullia in particular has a number of Doyle families. In the 1901 & 1911 census nearly every household had at least one member who was a stonecutter or stonemason. My late father in law, Joseph Doyle, himself a stonemason, came from one of these families.
