My 3rd great grandfather, Thomas Bartlett HALPIN, was a grocer and spirits dealer on Townsend St., Dublin. He was in the 1850 city directory and the directory 1838?. He was married to Margaret SELLERY, which could be spelled many ways. Margaret was of French/Irish descent. I thought possibly Margaret might have been a Hugenot but think now she was a Roman Catholic. I've seen the surname in the Index to Wills. I believe Thomas' middle name, BARTLETT, is a family surname and there are Bartletts in Dublin in that time frame. Any information appreciated. RE: HALPIN & SELLERY Hi Charles, You are correct, Thomas HALPIN shows up in the 1838 directory listed as grocer and spirit dealer. See link... http://homepage.fcgnetworks.net/dkng/HALPIN-DUBLIN-1838.gif The "Grocers" list shows him at 131 New Street, but he does not show up under at 131 New Street in the street listings. He does show up at the 112-113 Townsend Street address. There were no "SELLERY" listings... One "SELLORS" but that's it. Sellors James, wholesale hardware merchant, 18 New row, Thomas street Also one "SAILERY" Sailery Anthony, fruiterer, 55 Charlemont street A couple of "SILLERY" see link. http://homepage.fcgnetworks.net/dkng/SILLERY-DUBLIN-1838.gif Only one BARTLETT, Thomas... a ship owner in RINGSEND. Good luck, Dan charles wrote: >My 3rd great grandfather, Thomas Bartlett HALPIN, was a grocer and spirits dealer on Townsend St., Dublin.
