Hello List, I am trying to locate details of the background of Thomas Beckham who was executed in 1862 for murder. I understand the goal records or other details may be in the archives in Dublin. Does anyone know if the records for Limerick or criminals from there will be there? Data known.....ages given below not 100% certain. Thomas Beckham was 61 at the time of the murder and the murder took place on the 16th of May 1862. He only got married the day before he was hung to the woman he had lived with for 25 years also in 1862.He had an accomplice called Walsh, both were hired by Mr Delane to murder his neighbour Mr Fitzgerald. Earlier in 1850 he was in trouble and was supposed to have been sent to Bermuda, but seems to have gone to Australia! ( this entry is from the online index only, the records have not been viewed ) Thomas Beckham aged 40 Place of trial: Limerick Date: 09/07/1850 Crime: robbery sentence: transportation 15 years document reference: TR10, P155 comments: Convict detained on `Bride' ship 00/05/1851 (written as is on data....May 1851) and ordered to be discharged 03/09/1857 So I am looking for further details of either event and especially his family, at least 1 child, a son who was present at the execution.
